  1. lol fuck no. Are you not satisfied with the amount of superhero films already being released every year? Christ.
  2. Is it like this on all fanboy OWs? Just setting yourselves up for disappointment. 18.5m is massive and unprecedented, yes, but $200m OW? As maintained before, anything above $110m is great. Obviously it's not gonna be so frontloaded now, but it will be frontloaded more than people think.
  3. There was a black guy in the film? If you're talking about Chris Pratt, I feel that his charm has worn off completely. Where once he could have pulled off charming goofball, now it feels like the fame has got to him. He's basically Star Lord, but in real life. Bound to happen, I suppose, but still kinda disgusting.
  4. 😜 OK, but do you trust Andrews? I mean, I liked Brave IIRC, but I put that down to working off of Chapman's skeleton. His whole demeanour/attitude/face turned me off during the Brave interview phase.
  5. There might be a review on Page 63 that ventures into spoiler territory. Didn't really read through, more of a glance. I have no idea why it is so difficult for posters to post in the appropriate thread in the appropriate forum.
  6. That's because the Pixar Golden Double Decade > MCU. The standard is so much higher, it's not even funny or a contest. So when something like Monsters Uni. or Dory comes along that is worse than an MCU film (not on par) that's a massive dropoff in quality. Dory is something I'd expect out of second tier Dreamworks or Illumination or Blue Sky.
  7. Mark Andrews doesn't inspire at all. Disney have outdone Pixar recently, and after all that has come out (behind the scenes), they seem the more progressive of the two. Sad days, but whatever it was that kept Pixar going early on has pretty much disappeared. They can't rely on Unkrich and Docter once every 4 years. Maybe Lasseter's removal will be the reinvigoration that the studio needs, but then again Catmull is still there and those that enabled Lasseter are still there. Fingers crossed the real talent will weather this prolonged storm.
  8. This should have been expected from the first trailer. However, it still has a chance to be better than Dory. I'd be sorely disappointed if it was on the same level. What a lean decade it's been for Pixar.
  9. What was so bad about Cars 3? It's harmless and safe. Sure, it's not Pixar quality, but then, few of their releases this decade have been. At the very least it can't be worse than Cars 2's Mater-dominated storyline or the trainwreck that was the Good Dinosaur.
  10. What would be the difference between this and Toy Story 3? I haven't seen it, but if it's good, I would hope you would be right, but I don't see where the distinction between TI2 and TS3/FD is. Why would TI2 outopen them to such a degree and/or have even better legs? My only explanation, if it were to happen, would be that people seem to have wanted a sequel to TI since it was released whereas were probably only happily surprised for TS3 and maybe a little weary about Dory. But then it would be one of the first times where the Internet crowd made such a difference for BO and gross as that is almost non-existent. The Internet overrates and overrepresents.
  11. I'm kinda weary at the predictions right now. Seems like it's getting out of hand and when it does well it will be deemed disappointing.
  12. wut. Toy Story 3 Coco & Inside Out Cars 3 & Brave Monsters Uni & Finding Dory The Good Dinosaur Cars 2
  13. There was nothing racist about that statement. It was pointing out reasons why Black Panther succeeded in ways A: IW could not. Pretty pathetic to assume otherwise. That's probably the reason why a discussion about race is so difficult in America. Aside from the alt-right racists, there are people like yourself making mountains out of ant hills or in this case, out of nothing.
  14. For a second I thought you meant this list would be unchanged for the next 10 years which would be ludicrous. However, I can see Fallen Kingdom making the list and that's in a couple weeks.
  15. I don't mind the MCU, but I don't see much difference between any of the franchises listed in that post. It's just a double standard. You may be right and we'll see it in effect with FK, but that would also be down to JW, which I assume (may be wrong) people think was received well. It did have solid legs for a record opener. People apparently hated TF2 and that still did well enough to beat the original by a wide margin and I think TF3 made quite a bit too. But, I suppose I have almost reached the full casual stage now. Most franchises blend together because there are now so many entries. I watched JP and didn't think it was great. Already forgotten 90% of the movie. I'm not putting down JP to defend FK, because in a year or so I'll probably forget everything that happened in this. To me, these movies are satisfying if they are watchable in the present. I would say I really enjoyed some of the MCU movies but can't remember what happens in most of them. There's just too many and they are similar. This goes for every franchise. I guess it just didn't resonate with me on that level. I'm not saying have no standards with blockbusters. But I don't feel the disparity in some absolutely trashed movies online is deserved when the standard of comparison is not much higher. Black Panther is a good example of this. Besides its significance in representation, the story is pretty bad, but that gets overlooked. However, I only realized this when I rewatched it for Infinity War, so it too served its entertainment purposes on the first go around. True, but I honestly feel only fanboys (not using it negatively) remember each movie distinctively. I used to be able to too and most of my friends would not, but having had other interests and priorities in life, it becomes really easy to equate most films of the franchise together for the GA. Anyway, routing back to my original point, the hate FK seems to be getting seems to be OTT when pretty much the whole franchise has done the same. Maybe it's because I wasn't a fan of any of the prior movies, which is why I am able to say that I enjoyed this. Kind of like the active hate on the Last Jedi, when to me it was like every other SW movie before it. All the brouhaha for the same thing.
  16. Didn't stop MCU from doing great. You can't judge JW: FK and the rest of those franchises on one scale and the beloved MCU & whatever on another. This film does absolutely nothing wrong that other popular franchises did not already do. Transformers & Pirates just went too far. Technically their 3rd outings were respectable if disappointing box office wise. Nothing is wrong with Star Wars really. It's just that no one wanted a stupid cash grab Solo and many of the other idiotic ideas being cooked up at Disney with regards to spin-offs. Can't speak for DC since I missed too many of their movies but as "shit" as posters on here want to claim the TF, POTC etc. franchises are, they were enjoyed by the GA much more than perhaps any of the DCU bar WW. Anyway, not the franchise wars thread, but spare me the hypocrisy.
  17. Jurassic World wasn't very good but I enjoyed this one. Then again, I don't seem to tally up with the supposed GA on blockbusters these days. What more do you really want from a film like this? Actually, I'm sure there are a lot of things, BUT, *incoming unpopular opinion* no film in this series has ever gone there. The original Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, which I assume are the 2 most well received certainly did not. If anything, it's nostalgia driven that the original was any good. It's the same as pretty much every other disaster movie.
  18. I don't put much stock in trailer views because of the multiple places people can watch them which aren't counted, but as others pointed out below your numbers are mistaken. Where would you be getting these numbers ? As I don't think you would lie for no reason.
  19. What's the point of making a prediction like this though? Without any articulation of why, we might as well talk about our dreams & wishes for films to make more than they would because we like them and that invalidates the purpose of the forum.
  20. As others have articulated above me, it had a really high share. I only remember the fact it lost so well because my old Toy Story 3 > Titanic club was such a massive failure and one of the reasons I didn't think was possible (less admissions) happened.
  21. Not a weak point per se, but basically overestimating the amount of people who turned out for the original who will be coming to this. As referenced previously, if Toy Story 3 coming out 11-12 years after Toy Story 2 could not increase its admissions despite all those returning from nostalgia + the hundreds/thousands/millions of kids born in between as new audience members, why would TI2 be predisposed to do so instead?
  22. Lego 2 looks dated from its first trailer so I doubt it will be much competition. I don't think HTTYD3 will do gangbusters unless it has the WOM of the first and then it will be backloaded not OW heavy. Anyway, I'm just glad that Dean DeBlois got make his trilogy and not have to dumb it down.
  23. Most logical post here. I don't think Toy Story 3 outgrossed 2 though? It lost in admissions that I know.
