  1. Interesting discussion on the movie and how the marketing has been: http://www.ign.com/videos/2018/03/18/ugh-fine-well-see-ready-player-one
  2. This weekend's hold basically makes it a 50/50 shot for 100 right now. Rooting for it, hopefully spring break this week helps.
  3. Sure, but the competition is ridiculously light next weekend even if there are several releases. Will anything even hit 20m? And no theater is gonna be eager to take away screens from the top grossing movie, so I wouldn't expect too bad of a loss.
  4. Bummer to see BP down so much in the estimates. That probably squashes any hope of a 6th week at #1 next weekend. Though it's certainly possible nothing cracks 20m.
  5. The weekend its releasing will definitely boost Paul, no doubt. Just won't be surprised if ICOI steals most of its thunder is all. GND3 on the other hand might go sub 10m total based on the drop of the last one. Can't imagine much interest in that one.
  6. If ICOI takes over the churchgoing watercooler talk this week, then it could be hard for Paul to get their attention. Again, once that crowd latches onto something, they latch onto something. Besides, we already saw with Samson that perhaps straight up Biblical Christian movies aren't the most appealing to them these days. They seem to like the modern faith based stuff.
  7. A sub 20% hold or lower is probably coming next weekend. WOM seems to be spreading like wildfire with Christians. Once they hop on a bandwagon en masse, there ain't no slowing it down.
  8. Pretty rare to see a mid to late March weekend with nothing over $30m. The potential for nothing over 20m next weekend.
  9. I wonder what's missing in his life that he always feels the need to be so angry and condescending on a message board? It's sad because he could be a valuable poster if he didn't carry such a toxic aura into every thread.
  10. The next time you want to personally insult someone the mods need to ban your sorry ass because I'm sick of you thinking you have free reign to be an asshole to people because you're the poor man's Rth. The mods need to stop giving you special treatment as if what you provide here is so valuable. Half the time your "insider" knowledge turns out to be you just talking out of your ass anyways. Also take a good look in the mirror with that last statement because you've made plenty of ridiculous remarks that have come back to bite you in the ass. The difference with you and everyone else here is that even if I or anyone get a tad bitter about when we're wrong, we don't take it to personal insults. Yet you seem to think you can throw your temper tantrums and hurl whatever insult you want at someone. That's fucking bullshit and it never fails to bring down the friendly atmosphere this board usually has. Learn to be a decent person or go frequent forums where it is acceptable to not be one.
  11. How was Darker's run abnormal? They ended tracking a tad bit early, but that's because it had another 200k to add at most (as evidenced by what got added at the end of the year). Darker could have grossed more too this weekend if it had been able to play in 300 more theaters like Freed is and not lost 1k screens this weekend. Yet it did despite a higher gross than Freed going into the weekend and despite way less competition for screens. Yes, clearly this was completely normal with Freed.
  12. That makes no sense. I already expressed my bitterness about Rabbit's WOM and am over it. I have no reason to be bitter about Freed. Making 100m changes nothing for the purpose of my club. But it wouldn't make 100m if it had played out naturally like Darker did. That's all.
  13. Lmfao, you literally admitted earlier in this thread that Uni gave theaters an incentive to hold screens for Freed this weekend and now you're back tracking in an ill fated attempt to prove that's not manipulation. Freed would never get to week 20 in any natural form, hence why Darker ended at week 7.
  14. Yep. But Freed is not why it failed naturally. What you described isn't fudge at all. Leaving a movie in theaters to gross is perfectly natural, you could even argue it's unnatural to pull it when it's still making notable money. Studios giving theaters incentives to hold onto screens for a movie they would have dumped otherwise is entirely unnatural and manipulation, aka fudge. The latter is what happened with Freed this weekend. Almost every fudge job by studios start that way, whether they get to the reallocating money phase or not is dependent upon if the TC incentive or expansion fudge works on its own.
  15. Since when has fudge been restricted to meaning reallocating from other films grosses? Fudge has always been used to refer to not letting the film play out naturally in order to inflate the gross. Can be various forms of manipulation, and what you described in your post is obvious manipulation. Uni would be offering no incentive for Freed if they didn't want to ensure that 100m. Most examples of fudging are exactly what you described. The conversations I've been having with several others about if Uni would fudge Freed for weeks were talking about if they'd do the part of your post I bolded. The whole reallocating money thing is extremely rare and usually only done in the most desperate scenarios. And that was impossible in Freed's case since Uni has no options for that, something I said weeks ago. But thank you for proving my point though that Uni is fudging to ensure that 100m.
  16. WiT should do around 17m this weekend. That's a very solid second weekend hold compared to all other live action Disney family fare. WOM isn't toxic at least.
  17. There's only three other movies on that chart that are even above 100m, and just barely and they're all like twice TGS' OW.
  18. I mean Peter Rabbit is trying its best at a 5x multi, Gnomes only looks ever so slightly worse than PR and has had arguably an even more omnipresent marketing campaign so why not?
  19. Where will Uprising land on this chart next weekend? http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/worstopenings.htm?page=WRSTOPN30&p=.htm Gonna guess #50 with $9.5m.
  20. Maybe you're right, but PR's holds have been so incredibly strong some of it simply has to be great WOM. Which is mind-boggling to me, but whatever.
  21. Look at its entire run compared to Darker and look at the theater count and hold yesterday. How can you say there's no hijinks happening now? It is completely illogical with the rest of its run compared to Darker.
