Which is way too high with Minions coming. People should just be happy aiming for 300. After all it is less than 15m ahead of Monsters University at the same point, and that missed 300 by over 30m. And MU's 2nd weekend drop was less than 2% steeper. Yes this weekend's drop was good and so will next weekend's be, but then it's unlikely to have great holds.
By the way, since TA and JW grossed nearly the same this weekend if JW were to gross as much as TA did from this point it would end with 666m. Hail Satan!
McCarthy has proven to be a WOM machine. All of her lead role films have pulled between 3.9-4.1x multis, and it looks like Spy may be headed for that range as well.
It's a real possibility, imo. I think MMXXL will do well enough, but it will be very OD frontloaded just like the first. Still expecting Terminator to not do much. IO and JW are both playing to families well, and that's a big 4th audience so drops should be soft for them next weekend. If IO and JW do 52-55 this weekend I wouldn't be surprised if it goes something like this next weekend:
1/2: JW/IO - 32-35m
3/4: MM/TG - 28-32m
4 movies over 30m would be pretty cool.
Macy and Leoni were such random casting choices for that movie.
As I mentioned in an earlier discussion, Dern has always failed to grab my attention prior to just very recently with her excellent turn in Wild.
Claire was a good character. Her arc added the only real "human touch" to the movie. Owen was a mediocre character, but Pratt still elevated him to make him more memorable than a good chunk of the characters in the rest of the series. Basically:
1. Malcolm
2. Claire
3. Alan Grant
4. Hammond
5. Owen
Only characters worth mentioning in the franchise.
