Are studios happy with Kung Fu Panda 2 and POTC4 gross?
vc2002 replied to grey ghost's topic in International Box Office
Great posts Pinocchio.Because of their deal with Paramount, I dont any of their movies were profittable at the box office.(Maybe Shrek 2 is the only exception.) But of cause, this happens for most of the films out there doesnt it. -

Are studios happy with Kung Fu Panda 2 and POTC4 gross?

I think I remember some of the posts you made on BOM. I remember I was shocked by how little DWA get from their products, or at least the boxoffice revenue.. Paramount is the distributor, and that makes DWA's share of the boxoffice much lower than people might expect. For example, they made only sth like $40m from How to Train Your Dragon's WW boxoffice revenue. When it comes to studios like DWA that can't distribute themselves, how profittable a movie could be is a really different story comparing to what we normally believe. Their investment in filmmaking are MUCH more risky. -
As far as I know, Cameron is far from a internet geek god. That title belongs to Nolan or Fincher. On the internet he receives more hate than a lot of big-name directors have.
-
Well, I quoted that line not to set any argument because I already said what I had to say a few pages back (which you didnt answer BTW). I quoted that line to just have a little fun teasing a naysayer.
-
"If you dont say anything bad about Cameron, then you dont see his weakness and you think he's a god.""Only a naysayer deals in absolutes."
-
Why is the title of this thread changed to *Post early predictions*? Because we officially have no damn idea when this is gonna come out?
-
You see your problem here? You think you speak for people who care about character development and plot. You think you speak for those who know what film is supposed to be about. This is a typical act of a naysayer.
-
How much does a few naysayers' opinion mean, comparing to what Cameron had achieved?Nothing.
-
There weren't a lot of critics at all saying Avatar had "weak writing, 2D characters and more cringeworthy dialogue". And for the same reason, Cameron wont give a damn about the complaint from the critics. Why would he? Everyone doubted him back in 1997, and he shut them up with 11 Oscars and 1.8bn. Everyone doubted him again 12 years later, and he shut them up again with a even bigger bang. And you tell me that you have a few complaint about the 1st film, and you want him this want him that??? Jeez... Cameron is the last person in hollywood that would possibly give a damn about what others think of his film-making, and the last film-maker in hollywood that audience like you should rave about how he should do this and how he shouldn't do that.ROTF, like many films that were already half-way finished after a huge opening, had the luxury of a wide fanbase and massive awareness that a sequel and an adaptation has. Avatar is a completely different story, and I'm sure people on this forum will have plenty to say when it comes to its phenomenal boxoffice run as an original film.It wasn't a worthy best picture nominee at all? You know what, even if it actually got the BP award, you would still say "it wasnt a worthy BP winner at all". Oh yeah, I remember that. That happened 12 years ago. Titanic.
-
It's Cameron. What do you expect. At least we dont have to wait 12 years this time lol
-
2.8 billion, and a bunch of awards and nominations, well, I dont think he would give a damn about a few complaint on the internet, or a few complaint on the internet would mean anything comparing to what Avatar had achieved.

$94m means the film has to gross $200m to JUST make even. No one is stupid enough to make that kind of investment. Plus, they dont need to. Manwork in China is rather cheap. And it doesnt have expensive stars except Bale. Zhang Yimou's Hero cost only $30m, and that film had 6 MAJOR stars in China.Besides, its all about attracting the eyeballs anyway. Tron was said to cost 300m, and it turned out just a little over 150m. This kind of promotion strategy doesnt exist only in Hollywood. -

Given China's boxoffice explorsion in the last two years, it would be a major disappointment if TFOW doesnt make $100m, Big budget, big star from hollywood, biggest director in China, big promotion... In fact the producer Zhang Weiping was confidently saying that his goal on this movie was "to beat Avatar". (But of cause this statement was laughable, and imo he didnt really mean that. He just wanted to build some hype.)
