We made repeated announcements last week.

I get it but come on man, it's a box office forum. It shouldn't be a rule to dislike something, just seems silly in a vacuum when guys like BKB & Kal have free reign to pump a movie (&/or topic) to very little limits because they are insanely positive lol.

According to Deadline, which I don't think is fully accurate to begin with, Into Darkness barely made any money either and Star Trek Beyond was still given the go-ahead. Simply, Paramount doesn't have the most options, and even though they can't get too much more critically successful with the Star Trek franchise, as with anything, there's still room for improvement in other departments such as marketing. I believe this franchise will live on, surely!

If all else fails... ANOTHER reboot!

Dang these numbers are depressing. Thinking about it, it probably wasn't more than an 8/10 for me, but that still means I really really liked it and think it deserves better. Hope it passes 50M total. Oh, and also Pete's Dragon hasn't grown on me, and as of now I think it's more of a 6/10 than the 8/10 I originally thought it was.

The most exciting box office thing that happened was I just had a dream that Spider-Man homecoming had a 104M OD. I "watched" the first 20 minutes of it in my dream and it was good as hell.

WINTER IS COMING (& what I really mean there is fall is coming lol).

Nobody cares about Batfleck now and no one ever really did about Cavill's Superman. So WW is going to have to be the big draw for JL. If she tanks her solo flick, the JL DOM box office is going to be one of the most epic disasters the genre has seen.

Im not so sure man, it will still have a big opening right? Maybe they are content (I doubt they want to let to Fox or Universal catch up further) for these strong OWs & no legs as long as it doesn't draw too much negative press.

I am still not 100% convinced SS will pass the 300M but at this point if it finishes with 295M maybe WB will keep it around long enough and just fudge it into the mark in November with some Fantastic Beasts cash.

Especially with weekdays about to erode further due to summer ending... It's going to be interesting.

Hancock is the best Peter Berg film I've seen

    .. :kitschjob:

Maybe I shouldn't be excited for Deepwater Horizon

I remember when Ari pumps him up to direct Vince's firefighter film in  Entourage when Stellen Saarsgard's character goes apeshit & they used Hancock as his premier credit. WHY????

Are you going to address why records keep getting broken for people deciding not to go to a franchise with such poor WOM? Does that make any sense to you? Does it make any sense that if WOM is that overwhelmingly bad, people are stupid enough to spend 164m watching it? I guess WOM travels way to slowly. I can concede that if WOM were better, you could be looking at a possible 100 to 200m swing in overall success. I disagree that making 164m is a sign of toxic WOM.

OK, there is no helping you then. Agree to disagree.

  8. I get the counter argument, the 3 DCEU films have made a boatload OW & that's great! But if the goal was to compete with Disney/Marvel then they are failing miserably by what is happening after OWs. They are setting up for diminishing returns in future installments when we know costs generally increase/margins do not as you go deeper in franchises.

You're right, the franchise continues to be hurt by the toxic word of mouth. Three times now a DCEU film came out extremely front loaded. Three times now they've made 160m+ after OW due to toxic WOM (idk how you don't burst into laughter when you consider the irony of this). Also, three times now, a DCEU film has broken an OW record. Why do records keep falling from all this attrition?

Are you seriously going to try to argue BvS making $160m+ after an $166m OW in which $81.5m came from the OD signals a WOM that isn't toxic? Lmao! Good stuff.

Are we saying MOS was killed by toxic WOM? Enough so that it made more money in home-video sales that year than Iron Man 3? Enough so to open a 166m for its sequel? Every audience aggregate gave it a good score? In this era of Hollywood, unfortunately, just about every single studio is DESPERATE for such toxic WOM, and half of the Big 6 doesn't even have a shot at any movie making such bad legs in the entirety of their tentpole's runs. I guess if we exist in a vacuum that makes a lot of sense, because then the toxic WOM won't reach any ears...

Its sequel which had Batman/WW & was seen as a TA clone or being the lead into the real TA clone in JL... Look BvS was a major disappointment. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either joking or doesn't know what they are talking about.
