For STID's legs? Pretty well all things considered.
They aren't horrible but they aren't great either considering the performance of the reboot. I think 3x+ would be a huge win clearly.

I'll take that as you acknowledging that it's better than just "decent," since you avoided the topic.
Numbers, my point was clearly that STID has shown we are likely not seeing much (if any) expansion with this entry despite the good, decent, nice etc reception.

I'd call 89% RT and a 70 on Metacritic a bit better than "decent"
STID was 87/72 just so we're clear about where that matches up. How did that go?

ST has to hold well over the weekend or it's going down fast IMO. I guess that's the case in general for most films but I don't see decent critical reception saving the legs here.

The forum survived this weekend without imploding...nice job getting along everyone!
Ghostbusters is overrated as a franchise, the Internet outrage was stupid. Glad we can move on.

Yeah, The Legend of Tarzan is probably the biggest surprise of the summer. Had the budget not been so astronomical and the reviews been good instead of mediocre, this might have been a promising start to a potential franchise instead of a lucky one-off.
Those two sub 50 drops in a row are very surprising. Didn't expect it to hold that well ESP since Jungle Book was released only a couple months ago.

This forum is largely a Sausage Party... Ba zing.

I'm on a streak with clubs only; last week I said SLOP had no chance in hell at doing 90M+
Oh wait that's right, you are washed up man. Sorry :(.

WrathOfHan's prediction for Lights Out confuses me.
Guy is Magmar level hot right now when it comes to predictions, better just take his word for it.

FWIW Bridesmaids also got a B+ Cinemascore grade. We all know what happened there. But yeah, this obviously won't have the staying power of that movie.
You know why that is? CS is ?. & for those who can't see, it's the poo emoji.

Ghostbusters has B+ Cinema Score.
CinemaScore is trash. Wish we could bleep it out when anyone mentions it on here other than to dump on it.

Was looking through box office records for comedy movies and saw that Meet the Fockers made 279M domestic. WHAT THE FOCK??? How did that movie break out that huge?
You haven't seen enough sequels with goodwill released during the holidays lately? Meet The Parents was a huge success clearly.

New horror movie produced by James Wan. It has great reviews and has a fair share of buzz.
30m is a decent chunk man...

I would love to see Star Trek Beyond score a big opening weekend, but I feel like the ship sailed with the subdued reception to the previous film and J.J. Abrams's departure. I see it landing in about the mid-50s, and I fear even that may be a touch optimistic.
Not happening, STID had as much goodwill built in as possible & we all remember how that turned out. It still could have decent legs I guess.

I'm expecting 30M for Lights Out otherwise I agree with you.
What is Lights Out?

If that # is correct, seems alright. Not awful by any means but not great either. Glad the volatility of this project seems to have well peaked already.

In terms of preview numbers, I don't think we'll be able to extrapolate from them very accurately. Too many possibilities, and they're all plausible. Very low numbers? Quite possible that Friday will be backloaded and numbers pick up with potential WOM. Bigger than expected previews? (Unlikely at this point, I think). Plausible that the controversy gave it something of a mini-rush and the Friday multi could be lower than expected.
So, when the previews are announced, and everybody jumps to conclusions, remember this is a true wildcard weekend.
It's not a "true" wildcard dude, we have plenty of comparables for a film like this. I'm sure the range will get narrowed considerably like most of the time.

This movie will continue to disappoint the haters/lovers when it opens to a respectable, but nothing particularly noteworthy, 50m or so.
One can only hope.
side note: this being the earliest created weekend thread in history shows how bizarre this release is.

Guys, you know @Telemachos is about to die from old age soon, right? His ghost is about to do some real haunting cause he won't be fucking around in the afterlife.
Tele Jr inherits his account but has much better taste & wit. It will all work out.

Illumination's only real flop was Hop but that was a hybrid. The Lorax while hugely successful domestically, it flopped OS.
I don't expect every Illumination film to hit huge grosses because that's unrealistic, I imagine Grinch will be successful domestically but not so much OS because Dr Seuss isn't popular OS and Sing I think won't be as big as Pets but it'll still be a solid hit unless reviews are horrid
Neither Hop or the Lorax were "flops," word is way overused around here.

Will be interesting to see the collaborations between Dreamworks & Illumination now that they are going to be under the same parent company (Comcast).

Alice now $270m WW, looks like it's a way bigger "success" than Tomorrowland although that's a low bar to clear.
Weekend #s STB 59.6M, Pets 29.3M, GB and LO 21.6M, IA5 21M

Have not seen one ad for Ice Age, I guess they are just throwing up their hands with this installment & hope it pulls its usual big international share.
