Who is calling this movie a flop? No one is calling the movie a flop. However you're in denial if you don't think this movie hasn't lived up to expectations...not expectations set by us mind you but expectations set by people within the industry including WB. It's going to get $850M WW and as result it's run has been disappointing when you consider it has three of the most iconic super heroes in it, it opened to $420M WW and the amount of money used to market it. Flop it is not but I wouldn't call it a success either.

Listen to this guy, he's got the championship glow.

Remember the BvS over TFA people a year ago?

Plus the GA has rejected it the last two weeks, I feel like the significance of that gets understated because the common counter is that it's profitable and opened huge on OW. The point is this wasn't supposed to be a Twilight like BO run & even that maybe generous.

  3. I'll be nice and say this gets to $330m right at a 2 multiplier, How acceptable is BVS doing only $30m, $51m, $63m adjusted more than MOS, BB, Superman Returns domestically? There is zero question Returns will be a worse ROI based on its puny OS total relative to how it is now a decade later in certain markets (same with BB) and massive budget but for it to be within 20% of BvS is legit shocking.

I was one of the first to see it. I'm very lenient on comic book films but I knew right away this wasn't for everyone.

With that said, 900M WW isn't what WB wanted but I'm sure they will take it.

ED can we stop with the "WB will take it" nonsense? Every person knew this was going to gross some huge number. If it didn't can you imagine the panic? The point is the legs post the global opening have to worry WB when they are trying to build a whole universe off of it.

I always thought seeing these characters together would lead to a front loaded OW. Just not this front loaded. Reviews and WOM didn't help.

There were quite a few on here (non fanboys) who saw this having crummy legs pre release. Can't remember anyone credible arguing for a less than 2 multiplier. This likely isn't beating Superman 2 and/or Batman Returns adjusted after opening to $166m lol. Enough said.

Sure, in the context of our expectations, both before the OW and after. And of course BVS is having a disappointing BO run, much like TASM, actually. But in terms of just the sheer numbers, 800m is still a lot of money. (And 50m for a second weekend is a lot of money too... it's just not enough when you're expected to be an absolutely huge tentpole).

Context matters, 600m is a lot too but everyone would consider that a massive WW failure. Even $1b WW isn't what it used to be due to inflation so let's try to temper the rhetoric on calling all the numbers "big." This was always supposed to (in a vacuum) do big numbers compared to your average studio film but relative to its genre/peers based on the opening & holds its been very meh to even bad I think we can agree there. Doing $50m more domestic than MOS with Batman, WW etc on a sheer optics standpoint tells you a lot.
