  1. I haven't followed box office for a while. Has a consensus set in on where Wonder Woman's ending up both DOM and WW?
  2. This forum has become so meta that casual observers have to wade through a bunch of sarcastic posts to find out if the numbers are actually any good or not.
  3. Decided to give this a go after being disappointed with The Nice Guys and hearing it was a lot better. But frankly I've no idea why it's held in much higher regard. Some amusing moments and Kilmer's straight man is a great casting choice, but fuck me it shouldn't feel this much of a slog. After the hour mark I just thought 'I don't care about anything that's going on. Why am I still watching?' The plot taking a backseat is fine — even funny — for something like The Big Lebowski, but this is no Lebowski.
  4. We could get into the semantics of where you draw the line at 'cult movie', but the notion that Blade Runner isn't now generally considered to be a seminal sci-fi film is ridiculous. (Let's take is as read that all purported masterpieces have their share of detractors.)
  5. Unless movies are in direct competition I think you'd be surprised at how little rival studios give a shit. As one exec put it, movies in the same genre doing well means demand is high for our upcoming movie.
  6. Well Civil War sucks for similar issues — motivations are all over the goddamn shop — so I agree with you!
  7. It's not about confusion, it's about storytelling choices not complementing characters' actions and motivations in any given scene. Snyder is really bad at that stuff because he can rarely think beyond creating a cool-looking composition. There's no point in rehashing the many ways the two films suck on a script level — God knows the internet's done that enough — but if WB want to save Superman that's ground zero.
  8. Ignore the 'superman' part for a second: audiences will flock to a SH film that just has a coherent story at this point, which neither MoS or BvS had and their legs were affected accordingly. As much as conveyor belt of MCU films wears me out, it understands that basic tenet at least.
  9. Infinity War isn't making more than JW. It'll sit somewhere between Avengers and Civil War.
  10. Marketing works. Those two movies had more compelling marketing. But I'm guessing Wonder Woman's multiplier will tell the real story.
  11. Is the world ready for TWO female superhero movies in a single year??!!
  12. WB are already working on a Robin origin story in which Wonder Woman is his mentor.
  13. Can we just create sticky thread for top SH movie lists to stop them cropping up everywhere else? I'm only half joking.
  14. Wait, are we talking about that shot where they're in a circle and the camera self-consciously spins round them all? I always assumed that was just an exec decision foisted upon Whedon so there'd be a convenient trailer shot. I recall it really sticking out from the flow of action.
  15. I liked TA's destruction porn sequence more than most finales of that ilk, but the ground shots never felt like NYC for a second. There's something about the city's streets that's just impossible to replicate if you're not actually there.
  16. For an origin movie with WOM this good in a season this barren I'd definitely say a 2.5 multi is mediocre. But we're just arguing opinions at this point. WB have already scored a significant hit.
  17. A 2.5-2.6 multi would be totally disappointing after this WOM. It's not like The Mummy will be much competition.
  18. I somewhat bought into forum hype and thought 100m OW was a given, but solid numbers nonetheless. I guess 300m is a reasonable goal now?
  19. This is the Nolan thread. Take your weekend box office talk elsewhere...
  20. It sounds antithetical, I know. But I sense a dryness in him that would lend itself to a really great script. Caveat: someone else would write it.
  21. I want him to do a black comedy, dammit. I honestly think he'd knock it out the park.
  22. I'm guessing WB are knowingly taking a bath on Dunkirk. It's an investment in a future relationship with Nolan as much as anything else. God knows they've had no idea how to market it.
  23. Dat lack of novelty won't help its OW though. Again, I don't want it to be bad film. But with Snyder we now have to hope for the best but expect the worst.
