  1. According Maoyan, it is already at 520m Yuan, which with current ER means nearly $82m
  2. So, WoM for DC2 is way better than for MH2? And MH2 could finish third of the NY season after this huge opening? China box office is amazing to follow
  3. I was talking about just China, not everywhere TFA did $119m and TLJ $104m. Both Star Wars seem safe. DH2 should fall. MH2 could still reach $100m OD (635m Yuan)
  4. MH2 has just reached 500m Yuan ($78.7m). If I am not wrong, it is the first film able to do that amount in a single day.
  5. I was skeptical about IW opening and performance, but after this weekend, I am convinced this is TA and 2012 again. Marvel is doing it again.
  6. I think Ant-Man 2 will surprise too. The first part was great. I would not rule out $300m, even more with IW boost.
  7. I have never thought about WW weekend numbers, but just from Chinese films we could have $500m this weekend. Add Black Panther and the rest of holdovers... I do know if 1 billion has ever been grossed in a single weekend worldwide, but that seems the target this weekend.
  8. Am I reading 210-220 opening? would this kind of data head us to IW OW over TFA OW? Said this, BP could not the be the biggest opener in a single market this weekend... China is celebrating their New Year. There are 2 films that could open to a similar level than BP. Amazing weekend around the world to follow.
  9. Friday is already at $175m and it is not even 4pm... Detective Chinatown 2 is already at 282m Yuan ($45m). Could Black Panther opening in USA "just" be the third biggest around the world this weekend in a single market? Edit: and adding presales for whole weekend the cume is already over $250m at this moment.
  10. 3 films over $300m and 2 of them bordering $400m If those predictions become true, MH2 (#2), Detective 2 (#5) and Operation Red Sea (#10) would get into the top 10 ever. And the 3 films being released the same day...
  11. Some relevant grosses (by Feb 11th): Fifty shades freed: €4,333,905 (634,251 admissions). A bit lower opening than previous entry. Maybe €12m final ($15m). The greatest showman: €6,447,439 (1,068,191). Heading to €7m ($8.7m). The Last Jedi: €21,453,386 (3,345,965). 21.5m-21.55m expected ending ($26.8m). Jumanji: €11,205,028 (1,898,102). Finish €12m ($15m). Coco: €16,635,636 (2,794,947). Finish 17.2m-17.3m ($21.5m). Ferdinand: €8,693,728 (1,520,618). Finish 9.2m-9.3m ($11.5m). Perfectos Desconocidos: €19,951,919 (3,134,082). Last weekend it has grossed €311k, dropping a 28%. I think it will not finally outgross Star Wars. I do not see enough boost to reach €21.5m. It will be close, though. Low 21m.
  12. People have said here that Black Panther seems to have a bad release date. They did not seem optimistic about it. Beyond Avengers and Jurassic World, maybe Incredibles 2 could repeat the Coco's success? Just guessing.
  13. I guess that during New Year's eve everything is quiet. Presales for tomorrow are, right now: Monster Hunt 2: 248.2m Detective Chinatown 2: 147.9m Monkey King 3: 72.6m Operation Red Sea: 47.9m Boonie Bears: 34.2m
  14. Monster Hunt 2 presales for OD (170m) are already bigger than Monster Hunt total OD (162m).
  15. Good point. It could happen as you say. But my feeling is that WW2 will be beaten before A2 comes.
  16. Just to think that Jumanji can make this kind of numbers is amazing. Who would had thought this 2 months ago...
  17. A local film. But I do not know which one (maybe someone here has any idea about which upcoming films have that potential). The record of all time has increased in last 4 years in this way: Transformers 4 (2014): 1.9b Yuan ($320m) Monster Hunt (2015): 2.4b Yuan ($390m) The Mermaid (2016): 3.3b Yuan ($525m) Wolf Warrior 2 (2017): 5.6b Yuan ($870m, what means $900m with today ER) With this trend, I find difficult that any local film can not reach 6.3b Yuan (1 billion dollars) during next 3 years.
  18. I get the hype here, but I find a bit unrealistic to talk about the billion. 400-450 OS could be a good target (there are some people in Chinese thread say that the China release date is bad for this). Maybe 750-800 WW, what would mean to be on par to the biggest SH first films like SM1, Wonder Woman or Deadpool.
  19. I have not read the whole thread, so I do not know if this has been said, but after this weekend Jumanji has ranked #1 last 5 weekends. The last film which did it was Avatar (7 weekends). Both films are the only two which have done it along this century... It has nearly reached x10 multiplier. The $11m figure of its 7th weekend is the the same amount than the 7th weekend of TFA, The Sixth Sense, E.T or Forrest Gump. Of course, using unadjusted figures. But I still think is remarkable. I am absolutely amazed with this run.
  20. And if I am not wrong, there is another film which will be released the same day and ranks #3, but not too far from Detective 2 with 31.94m. Which film is that?
  21. Sure. And I think that the same happens with some Woody Allen's films. There are 2 or 3 of them which grossed more in some European countries than in US. But of course, by a couple of million, not by x7...
