Going by the reaction to Rose Tico in SW, I'd say yes but I think a more conventionally attractive Asian or Latina Ariel might have gotten a bit of a pass, even if the film would be ignored/boycotted by racists. On the flip side, I don't think those communities would have strongly rallied behind those actresses as the black community has while coming out to support Halle, so the DOM BO might be lower. Whatever happened to the Latino community energy that elevated Selena Quintanilla to demi-goddess status in the early 90s and why has it never occurred again for any Latine star since?

On the + side, it just shows HOW important media is in shaping society, culture and behavioral norms and how success of certain media poses a threat to the way of life of racists, so maybe we aren't wasting time following movie box office 🤪

Marvel Comics even tried to spite Feige once by making Captain Marvel highly unpleasant in Civil War 2 just before her MCU debut. The reason for the shade being Feige locked out the Comics ppl from the movies side completely during Perlmutter's ouster. The comics still need to synergize with the movies/shows despite their hate for them tho, like Kamala Khan's recent death in Spider-Man most probably being a way to get rid of her Inhumanness and then resurrect her as a mutant as hinted on her show. So it would be funny if SV2 did better than all the MCU films this year despite all the Spidey sabotage.

+ white ppl exist in LATAM too coz of colonialism. Ofc as joselowe said, there are other reasons like weak dubbing and Disney dropping the ball in general when it comes to marketing. The film is supposed to be a 100 times more magical than the promos made it out to be. DOM won back fans, especially black women, thanks to Halle's charm and charisma on all of her press round appearances. Ppl OS who aren't following her media rounds have less incentive to check the film out.

Ironic then that Will Smith was the main reason why Aladdin triumphed OS while it had a less impressive showing in the US.

Zeb Wells writes excellent X-Men stories so I'm not too worried about him here. His Spider-Man nonsense seems to be a case of Marvel Comics now doing the petty, spiteful shit to Spidey/Sony that they used to do to the Fox-owned properties in the 2010s, before the acquisition. Karma will have the last laugh seeing how Spider-Verse 2 is shaping up to be the most lauded Marvel-related anything of the year. I hope it becomes the highest grossing 'Marvel film' of the year too.

The best development so far is that Margot and WB managed to get Mattel and Aqua to finally end their decades-long petty feud and combine their powers to officially associate Barbie Girl with Barbie.

Alice was the first 3D blockbuster film after Avatar and it was probably the last of Depp's peak years. Its success didn't actually have to do much with nostalgia for the original Disney animated film (which is a great film but very underrated in comparison to other entries in the WDAS pantheon).

That's some Berenstain/Berenstein Bears shit right there. I was pretty sure those were rotten flicks too. However, for TLM to basically have the same % as BatB probably means it's actually far superior and just on the receiving end of higher standards for these films now. No ways is BatB live action getting 71% if it came out in 2023.

People in the past have bought much more expensive things than a movie ticket just to put up a video of them burning it. Don't underestimate stupidity. I'd really love if someone got the idea of buying out entire showings thinking they are preventing others from watching the film

Spider-Verse 2 is also expected to do well and GotG3 will leg it to an impressive total. So when is Superhero Fatigue supposed to set in again? As for the non A-lister thing, that was always true except for the MCU, which at this point is much bigger than it was previously so logically not every film will be a super success. It's still releasing with a Pixar film and Transformers, Spider-Verse and Mermaid would still have theaters so 115M isn't meh, especially for a film which had so many troubles until release.

Super weird how SK is the country where Disney has made the most efforts to promote this in Asia despite their beauty standards being incredibly Euro-centric. I thought South East Asia and South Asia might have been better markets considering they have more diverse skin tones + some very ocean centric cultures.
