The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Marvel is undoubtedly king of walk-up Saturdays, but with this unprecedented amount of pre-sales, it’s gonna be a real challenge to that status since will there even be much seats left to walk up too lol. -
AVENGERS ENDGAME | 1939.4 M overseas ● 2797.8 M worldwide
Sam replied to kayumanggi's topic in International Box Office
Labor Day holiday is Wednesday this year. Marvel must have the Top 5 records lock down for biggest Labor Day gross WW (if such thing exist). IW pulled in $62.5M for May 1st last year, without China and Russia. It’s gonna be real bonkers to see Endgame number for Labor Day this year as it’ll be the first time MCU has China on its side for this big holiday (also gonna have Russia’s 2nd day, which will help boost it even more). -

I’d say it’s Destiny. -

Yes. Yes, we do. For Thanos. For the universe. -
CAPTAIN MARVEL | 701.4 M overseas ● 1128.3 M worldwide

I think over Aquaman is asking for too much. This great hold OS is partly Endgame anticipation effect but mostly Easter effect. OS is not like domestic where double features and spillover is as strong, plus screen count loss will be far greater compare to US too. I think ~705M OS will be where it’ll land. Don’t see how domestic can get to 440M+. It’s very well on its way to over TF3 WW though, which is great. -

Great hold. Looks like 700M OS will happen after all. -
This is quite an interesting development. Flashmaster keeping that Avenging spirit.

You must admit though that the risky art films angle is quite clever. It covered excuses on all bases: art film so risky to the point that not just audience but movie critics can’t understand hence poor reviews, and artsy to the point of niche and ain’t meant to make money at the BO. Gotta give it to the fanboys for creativity.

These past months seems to be popular times for banned members to come back with alts, trying to nonchalantly blend in, but all failed pretty spectacularly cause let’s face it, old habits die hard. Props to them for the creativity though. There’s Cocho who tried to come across as championing for success of female-led SH movies, but can’t help with snide remarks and backhanded compliments showing bitterness and incredible passive aggressiveness towards Captain Marvel’s BO. Then there’s shivampa who did a complete turn from hater to supporter to mask the trail. It’s pretty hilarious. -
You tell me. Last year double feature with IW went to A Wrinkle in Time instead of BP for the majority of it. (although that mostly has to do with Disney trying to get AWIT passing $100M mark, Dumbo seems fine to get there by itself so maybe not)
-
Disney double feature shenanigans aside (which they probably gonna give to Dumbo more than Capt. Marvel), it just make sense that the movie which will get the most spillover effect from Endgame is CM. How big of a spillover is gonna be interesting to see.

I noticed that in S.Korea, not many big/high profile local movies get released in the spring or even first half of the year. And not just this year but in general. Any big ones coming up for local market?

I’m not sure why BOM is so inconsistent in tracking and documenting BO data for Vietnam. Don’t know about now since Vietnam is such a fast growing territory for BO, and records being broken so often, but IW broke records big time last year and must have earned close to $9M-$10M total there I believe. That’s pretty sizable for a small country, more than a lot of small European ones. -

Sam replied to Olive's topic in China At The Box Office
Wow at the pre-sale! When is the Big Three + Renner/Rudd going to China? Anticipating that will help spread awareness even further (as if it’s not high enough already) and boost pre-sale even more. -
The thing with MCU in S. Korea market is that these movies can’t tap into the older demographics that show up for local hits. So it seems like there’s a limit of how high it could go in terms of admissions. Dollars-wise, I hope Endgame will finally be the MCU movie to break $100M mark. It’s only fitting.

Black Widow | July 9 2021 | ScarJo secures the bag from Disney
Sam replied to Kalo's topic in Box Office Discussion
You should watch it. It’s really great. So fun. Rachel Weisz was a treasure in it. (Brendan Fraser was great in The Mummy too. He effortlessly embodied the Indiana Jones aesthetics but also carried the role with his own charms, unlike the million other actors Hollywood keep pushing as second Harrison Ford till now.) -

You don’t like The Mummy (1999)? No offense to anyone but I don’t trust people who don’t like The Mummy (1999) (Hate that I have to put the released year to not confuse people with the Tom Cruise The Mummy debacle lol)
