Jack Nevada
The Way, Way Back and Fruitvale Station are also doing really well. Same cant be said for Before Midnight even though its highest grossing movie of the series.

lab276
Despite the detrimental effect to box office, I'm very happy Smurfs bombed. It probably looks ironic, but I mean detrimental in the sense that August box office is going to be worse than I wanted.
Jack Nevada
Mud is probably the biggest indie success this year so far. Edited August 3, 2013 by Jack Nevada
CaptainJackSparrow
August looks really bland for me. Only film I am interested in seeing is We Are the Millers.
John Marston
That's a pretty weak hold for Wolverine. With the onslaught if new releases coming its guaranteed to be the lowest grossing X men by a decent amount
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted August 3, 2013 Founder / Operator Share Posted August 3, 2013 I think Elysium has some breakout potential, but beyond that, this month looks like weak sauce.
kayumanggi
Based on BO.com's projections, the top 12 will be up only 9% on last year. That's still good.

lab276
I'm really impressed with DM2's holds at the moment. It was threatening to drop under DM a few weeks ago, but all of a sudden, it's holding better.

Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted August 3, 2013 Founder / Operator Share Posted August 3, 2013 Supposed heavy handed nature of the film and strong violence I think has killed Elysiums breakout chances Maybe, maybe not. I'm not paying much attention to the reviews, just going on the marketing campaign alone. A film can breakout at the box office without actually being universally praised. I definitely think Elysium has some potential to open strong--especially with every other live "action" movie since late June disappointing on some level. Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted August 3, 2013 Founder / Operator Share Posted August 3, 2013 DM didn't have much competition either, and it's still holding better. DM2 has a lot more competition than DM did, though. That's why it's taking longer to stabilize.

Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted August 3, 2013 Founder / Operator Share Posted August 3, 2013 Sad part is that it still has Planes and, to a lesser extent, Percy Jackson to contend with. I doubt it gets severely affected by the latter, though.
