How much did Baby's Day Out do? That movie felt like it was huge in India.

Will try to find info on gross but seems like it was given success verdict back in the day equal to HIT today. For Hollywood movies, FI could be a bit harsh, so can even say a SUPER HIT today.

Also this is just Hindi dubbed version. English might have done better.

Wait. The "Rest" are all flops. That is a huge list. So movie going went down in India 30 years ago. Back then there was  no streaming. So what was the reason? Video Cassette?

Yeah Video Cassette thing happened in the 80s which hit BO. There was a surge in 1994 which once again took a big hit in 2000s.

As for films flopping, I think its not as bad. Most of those 100 films would be one with no awareness.

Cut to today, we are still getting ~20 HITs, in fact not even at times, but no. of releases has gone up to 250.

2019

2018

Awesome data. Especially a status called Box office Wonder  :hahaha:

We should call Inside Out 2 run that for sure.

Box Office Wonder or Movie Marvel or may be something other is basically what we call All-Time Blockbusters.

Inside Out 2 is def one in LATAM.

Verdicts goes like

All Time Blockbuster
Super Blockbuster
Blockbuster
Super Hit
Hit
Semi Hit
Average

Flop
Disaster

I think in America, will call ~70M admits ATBBs.

So like

Titanic

Phantom Menace
Shrek 2 (close call)
The Dark Knight
Avatar
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Black Panther (close call)
Avengers: Endgame
Spider-man: No Way Home

It's one of the few Hollywood movies I can remember running for 50+ days in my small city, which means it probably did way better in the bigger centers. It's hard to explain which movies catch on with Indian audiences, even harder to explain Baby's Day Out which has 3 official remakes now in India.

It did $174K (55L) in the first week on 33 screens. Ran for 17 weeks in Kolkata.

The days of staggered releases is so weird to look back on. Movies didn't release in my city till 3-4 weeks (sometimes a couple of months) after the big cities. When we got movies the same week as the big cities, it was an event.
