Solid Thriller with a good cast. B

State of Play is a very obnoxious film. Overly reliant of shocking twists and with archetypal characters, it frequently annoys with its poor storytelling. The direction is quite bland too; it feels like an early 2000s non-HBO cable drama. Crowe is horrifically miscast in the lead role, although Affleck and McAdams are both likable presences. It's a film that tries to be smart, but in its attempts to impress, it just reveals its own stupidity. State of Play is a waste of time for everyone involved, being a dull look at journalism and political corruption. D

I even saw this on the big screen ... was promising far more than it delivered, a rather forgettable thriller imho
