grim22
Alternate title: FXX pays a hell of a lot of money: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/11/15/fxx-acquires-syndicated-episodes-of-the-simpsons/215959/ FXX has paid 750 million dollars for syndication rights to The Simpsons. The extraordinarily popular series has never had a lucrative cable syndication deal before because when it launched in syndication back in the 1990s its deal limited it to local broadcast affiliates. That deal finally expired this fall and a bidding war commenced. The fledgling FXX was the winner. FXX will begin airing The Simpsons in August 2014. The deal also gives FXX VOD rights to the show and covers the first 24 seasons of the longrunning series. Gopher
If this means that we're getting seasons 2-9 in heavy rotation on cable TV then I'm a happy customer.
Hangman
What a surprise, Fox sells it to a company that it owns. I'm sure some creative accounting will make it seem like a loss for both companies.
CloneWars
Man, they should have sold it whoever was paying $700M since they practically sold it to their own cable network. $750M would have been impressive if it were not for that fact. CaptainJackSparrow
Why on Earth sell it to their own cable company? Why not just give it to them for free??????
Dementeleus
Why on Earth sell it to their own cable company? Why not just give it to them for free?????? Because this way each division wins: FOX gets major bucks and FXX gets the ability to write off a ton given what they paid.
DeeCee
Plus it's not just Fox selling it. The creators, voice actors etc all would get a cut in their deals.
Community Manager Water Bottle Posted November 16, 2013 Community Manager Share Posted November 16, 2013 Why on Earth sell it to their own cable company? Why not just give it to them for free?????? FOX and FXX might have the same parent company but they are two separate entities that operate independently of each other. In other words, their in the same corporation but their two different companies with their own interests and etc.
