Holiday Monday helped MJ1 to pass THG in only 5 days!!! It stands now at around $ 2.5m with 425k tickets sold

Very good holds all over due to a holiday Monday!! Great Opening Week for MJ1, 4th first week for the year!!! Great hold for Dumb and Dumber To. It should sell more than 0.5m admissions by the end of its run, something between $2.5m and $3m.

Good news for Big Hero 6. It's going to be released on Dec,11th instead of in January. That's the first weekend of the summer holidays. I think it's a very clever move. Let's see if it does over $10m.

Another positive month!! November ended 7.6% up compared to last November. Month after month the Box Office is recovering from the damage caused by the World Cup. As of yesterday 2014 is only 7.3% lower than 2013. Pretty good considering that Argentina played the final World Cup match and that last year was the best ever.

Todays new releases: Exodus and Paddington. I don't have a good feeling about Exodus... I see it closer to Pompeii than to Noah... We'll know tomorrow morning

Actually, now that you mention it, a lot of the negative reviews I've read for exodus are similar to pompeii: visually great but a weak story and not enough character development. Doesn't it open in spain this week too?

Yes. It opens tomorrow and Saturday and Monday are holidays. I think I will see it next Wednesday (Half price here)

Thursday was good all over (or maybe last Thursday was pretty bad because there was a very important local football match). Mockingjay fell only 7% compared to last Thu. Dumb and Dumber To was UP 60%!!!! Even Interstellar was up 5%. Exodus opened with a so so 15k admissions that should lead to a $700k-$900k OW with the help of the holiday Monday. Paddington OD was very bad.

Exodus is not doing good. Weekend estimates: $0.6m ($0.8m for the 5 days, Monday is a holiday). As I predicted is closer to Pompeii ($0.3m OW) than to Noah ($1.4 OW). I was reading some critics and the word that I read the most was "boring"... I don't see good legs for this movie.

Paddington didn't recover on Saturday. It will have a horrible OW.

On the other side, Dumb and Dumber To is falling only 22%. This movie is the surprise for the year!!! It's going to pass $3.5m this weekend

Also Wild Tales is dropping less that 10% and it is still in the Top Ten.

Exodus finally ended the 5 days weekend close to $1m. Let's see how it holds during december. The Hobbit does not open in this market until January, 1st. Big Hero 6 this Thursday!!! 

 

Mockingjay enters the Top Ten for the year passing CA:TWS. Another great hold for DADT. Paddington flops badly, as everywhere in Latin America except in Peru.

It's not a good release date because everyone is holidaying in the cities on the coast and there are not so many theaters there but it is going to have almost all the screens because Big Hero 6 is going to open this Thursday instead of on the same day than The Hobbit as it was initially planned, so I hope it does at least as much as AUJ
