For what i heard people went to see BR also 3-4 times. A lot of my friends (I live in a little city with only 1 screen) want to see it again. If fox can keep the movie in at least 200-250 theaters untill the end of january and with some redistibution (it has the biggest average after a month, they can!) it has chances to overtake Star Wars 7.

It has to do with the fact that we get and post numbers from Cinetel, which covers most of the national market but not 100% of it (like 19/20 - the 100% accurate figure is released by SIAE). Usually, the actual numbers are very close to the daily ones as the big theaters are all covered by Cinetel (for example, I2's OW was a little above 4.2M euros, but if you add its dailies you get a total a little below 4.2M - no big deal). I guess the holidays are messing up things a little, as once you do the sum of Poppins' last 7 dailies you get a total of 8.872M, while the movie is reported to have grossed a whooping 400K more than that. In any case, the weekend figure is always the correct one.

Indeed. The movie managed to remain a top choice over the holiday period despite being already one month old (which is really a lot by Italian standards). I actually think it doesn't need much of a push from Fox to get there: it's already at 20.9M after a weekend close to 2M and with another full week of holiday or semi-holiday, it's keeping a lot of showtimes even with Ralph and Aquaman opening tomorrow and it won't face any big competitor for weeks. It's also a type of movie that doesn't drop that much once holidays are over.

And about Ralph...I have to agree with you. Though I think that the recent lack of animated offering and an open January will help it get around Sing's number (8/9M).

Meaning, BR has 1.9m+ over this weekend? That is like 40% from last week! while major media outlets only reported 11% up.

9 A Simple Favor 0.28 -36% 2.07 2.60
10 Il Testimone Invisibile (It) 0.27 -35% 1.93 2.40

Mary Poppins remains on top, with an increase that is far from stellar. Moana increased by 75% two years ago, and Ralph rose more than 80% on exactly the same weekend 6 years ago. Still, considering it comes from a slightly inflated OW (last Sunday it jumped by like 60% over Saturday), it's a fine number. It's showing clear signs of slowing down in the last days, so it looks like every euro over 50 Shades Freed's 14.38M total (currectly the #3 movie of a poor year) it's a gained one.

All local movies are doing pretty well. La Befana vien di Notte will be very strong until next Sunday, and then disappear very very quickly from theaters due to its theme. Amici come Prima is holding better than the average "cinepanettone", so it's not really perceived as a Christmas movie (in fact, it is NOT a Christmas movie ) - still, its holds aren't good enough to take it to the double-digit total.

Bohemian Rhapsody...I'll have to post an all time chart soon to see how many juggernauts it can beat.

Weak for Bumblebee, it will lose a good 10/15% from TF5's already abysmal gross.

Ben is Back is benefitting a lot from the holidays. Pretty sure 2/3 of the money it's making are due to Julia Roberts being the lead actress.

If using 1.93m for the weekend gross, shouldn't be the total be 21m?

Wow, so Aquaman was even above 1.5M for the day, yet that wasn't enough for it to get the top spot. Huge opening for Ralph, about 50% above Jumanji which opened the same day and finished with 10.3M. Of course Ralph won't have the same legs, and it has the further handicap of holidays ending one day earlier, but a double-digit finish is definitely in play.

With great legs (by the standard of sh films) Aquaman may get to 10M or so as well, but I'm not certain about it. Reception seems solid, but nothing more than that.

Mary Poppins collapsed, but with openers combining for over 3M and WOM being modest that's not a surprise. All signs were there since Saturday, though this is even worse than expected. Moana (with less competition) made 1.13M the same day, and was able to collect 6M until the end of its run. A simple math tells us Poppins will fail the get the #3 spot of the year and can also fail to beat Grindelwald for the #2 spot (so far) of the season. Very disappointing after its strong start.

Awful numbers for Spiderverse and Bumblebee, but since they were doing smaller business and both the openers were direct ot semi-direct competitors, that was totally expected.

Suspiria did decently considering its limited release.

Local movies keep holding well. Heck, I wouldn't even be that surprised at La Befana Vien di Notte re-taking the top spot today.

And here's Bohemian Rhapsody's position in the all-time chart (in euros):

29 > Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows/2 > 22.25M

30 > Madagascar 3 > 21.91M

31 > Finding Nemo > 21.86M

32 > Bohemian Rhapsody > 21.72M

33 > La Banda dei Babbi Natale (It) > 21.48M

34 > The Lord of the Rings: TFotR > 21.43M

Today BR will enter the top 30 of all time. And keep in mind that 17 out of those 30 are Italian comedies. So it's already the 15th biggest Hollywood gross of all time. #1 is (obviously unreachable) Avatar with 65.67M. The biggest non-Cameron Hollywood movie ever by gross is Alice in Wonderland with 30.385 million euros. Star Wars 7, currently the 17th release of all time and the 6th once you remove local movies from the chart, stands at 25.55M.

It still blows my mind that it's 2019 and the phrase "biggest opening of all time for a DC title" is being used for... Aquaman. Who woulda thunk it?
