John Marston
Since Spide man appeals primarily to kids and families now it seems they need to change the next one 's date to deep into the summer
redfirebird2008
Geez lets get some weekend numbers before we put Spidey in less than Thor 2 category. Scary thing for Sony is it could actually start falling behind Thor 2's pace in the next few days. Thor 2 increased almost 200% on Friday and almost 60% on Saturday. Those percentages seem like they would be a "best case scenario" for ASM2.

The field is leveled sort of. Thor2 had less direct competition and got Thanksgiving and Christmas bumps. TASM2 will get Mem Day bump and lots of summer weekdays but amidst direct competition. Going to be an interesting watch. Edited May 9, 2014 by a2k
ecstasy
For all you know those numbers could seal the deal and send it off to that territory of discussion quicker. Just saying is all....they could. True. But it hasn't happened yet, lol.
Dementeleus
THOR 2 had the benefit of Thanksgiving and (for its late legs) Christmas holidays. TASM2 has the benefit of upcoming summer days (for its late legs).

TASM2 has the benefit of upcoming summer days (for its late legs). If it's performance shows theaters it's better to reduce screens in favor of other films then it's legs will be short and so very unsexy. I'm not seeing as long and lengthy a run for TASM2 as most May openers typically get(cause they open strong and hold well).
a2k
There were a lot of couples in my screening of TASM2 yesterday. Maybe the story-line helped. I was hoping that would counter-program some of the action laden competition later on. But maybe I just hope in vain..
Accursed Arachnid!™
It is very ugly. It is mindblowing to think that ASM2 is going to have less after 10 days than SM3's weekend total, despite 7 years of inflation, 3D premiums that didn't exist, and a much expanded IMAX screen count. Spidey has fallen a long way. The fact that he's fallen this far, yet is still seen as successful enough to warrant sequels shows just how amazing the performances of the original trilogy were.

No doubt. SM1 in particular had an unreal performance. Never in a million years would you think a Star Wars movie would get chewed up and spit out despite opening 2 weeks after a Spider-Man movie.

PDC1987
So TASM2 couldn't even do 25% of it's weekend gross from Mon-Thur? Is that normal?

Truly. They only lost worldwide to Potter, Rings, or Pirates in the years it went up against them. Potter never let it hit #2.
