dudalb
I suspect the new management will do what Iger is doing at Disney; cut costs, keep a tight reing on budgets (particularly since at least two Paramounts films Gladiator 2 and the Next MI film ) went out of control on budgets and kill off a lot of questionable projects and only fund films that look like they have a good chance of suceeding at the box office. They cannot afford to take many risks at this point.

Interesting that they greenlit and put on the fast track a remake of "Officer and a Gentleman" the 1982 Naval Aviator themed film that was a massive hit, and whose sucess is what got Top Gun Green greenlit. And they can do it for a modest amount of money, since the main thems is Naval Aviation Candiates surving the brutal first stage of training, and will not require any expensive flying sequences since the first stage is strictly "Ground School". Real question is who will the find to play Gunnery Sergeant Foley, the DI who is in charge of the training, given how iconic Lou Gosett was in his oscar winning perfromance. filmnerdjamie
Well they haven't actually greenlit An Officer & a Gentleman. Not yet. Greenlight means you've gotten all your ducks in a row, budgeted it out and everyone is in overall agreement with that, the script, main casting, etc. and they say "Okay, go make it." It could very well go away once the keys are handed to Skydance next year. In fact, a lot of those films announced at CinemaCon - developed under the current and now outgoing regime - won't happen. You are right, but given that Officer and a Gentlemen could appeal to a lot of the Top Gun audience without a TOp Gun level budget I think it might be apretty good bet for Paramount. It could be done on a very modest budget. And casting is a long way from complete; they still have not announced Gunnery Sergeant Foley which might be the most crucial casting in the film. filmnerdjamie
It needs a director, first and foremost. So I'll go ahead and suggest Sian Heder.

SHe is a good filmmaker, don't know if she is right for this, though. Not convinced she can handle the military angle of the film..and the in the end it is a movie about the Military. That is why most major deals involve a mixture of cash and stock. You lessen the taxes you have to pay for the deal that way.

Let's just hope he gets he does not really know that much about the movie business, and hires some good people to actually run it. and then leaves them alone. On the other hand, some of Ellison;s political stands...he very strongly has taken Israel's side recently....might drag Paramount into some political problems it could do without.
