Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a lot better than it looks, but sadly, that's not enough for it to be a truly good blockbuster. It's biggest issue is the direction, which is sub-par to say the least. The main issue is the way sequences are consistently incoherent, often making one doze off in otherwise creative action sequences. Also, the color palette is rather disappointing for a Ninja Turtles film. The character dynamics are alright, and actually manage to be immature in a good sense, since these are teenagers after all. Will Arnett essentially plays himself, but that's okay because Will Arnett is always a welcome presence. Megan Fox isn't bad either, although the camera lingers on her far too much, and the script is full of too many sexist comments towards her. Overall, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an decently fun setup for what could be a highly entertaining franchise, but suffers from the desire to emulate Michael Bay far too much. D+
