A Marvel Fanboy

Dreamworks Animation: What Went Wrong?

Recommended Posts

I once believed in ROTG. And look what happened ?Coming:primitives in a cave ?ugly running turbo ?paper boy and his shadow ?And the rest ... could not see their big potential yet.

I believed in it too, but clearly, it's not the movie's fault and it's with the marketing. In that sense, there's no reason to write off everything. There's that old example about Pixar and how their films were unmarketable.People here, all the time, used to say, well dragons are not marketable and God knows what other ridiculous reasons when a film doesn't do well. Maybe the marketers didn't sell it well but it's not the topic at hand. I say fantasy is a hard sell, some say medieval epics, but it's all down to how they are marketed and not what they are. Even if they are great, if you market it like everything else, why would you expect different results?

I think markets change over time. Marketing and good movies (wih other factors) help alter the perception of plotdevices or contents in a film. Fantasy as a whole was underperforming in the 80s and 90s. That has changed a lot. Some like playing it safe and follow the trend. Others are more adventurous, but risk loosing a ot of money.

"Without a question, it's the most ambitious and exciting slate of movies that we've had. I think our best years are ahead of us. We're excited about the business."

I know it's the business way of speaking but pleeeease. Saying it out loud won't automatically make people thinking it.

"We think people are still interested in original ideas"

No, really?

Dumb statement. Of course, we are interested!

And no, Guardians won't act like Dragons, BO wise.

Just no way.

Business means "métier" here and not "commerce" Edited by Rudolf
