To think if they had made it one film instead of two we would probably be here wondering if the number was gonna be O/U 200M instead of 100M

It's possible that a single film version of Mockingjay would have performed similarly as MJ1 last year.  It's happened to lots of third installments.

Laughing aside, it would have probably been $160 million at most $120-$130 million+ most likely

True. But I feel like they had all the momentum in the world with Catching Fire. And they just kinda proceeded to shoot themselves in the foot with the split, weak marketing campaign, and  mixed reception of MJ1

If it's badly affected by SW7, MJ2's Dom could be under JW's 5 day total. It's likely to be under JW's 6-day anyway and most certainly under JW's first week total. Imagine someone saying that before JW released.

Catching Fire was heavily aided by Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar win. I doubt Mockingjay as one film could have outperformed what Catching Fire achieved.

However.... two Mockingjay movies will have combined total gross of approximately $600mil DOM. Wise decision on the studio's part
