Spinoffs, Side Stories, Etc: Film/TV Ideas You Want the New Canon to Explore

Recommended Posts

Basically what it says on the tin. Discuss what stories you'd want the new Star Wars canon to explore, whether it be in film or television format.

And before about 10 people jump in to shout in all caps "KOTOR," also take into consideration how what you would want would fit into the new canon with some detail. Simply dropping something of whole cloth from the old EU is kinda lazy.

 Movies starting after episode IX

-Obi-won movie-2020

-Darth Vadar vs a group of jedi 2021 could feature inquisitor

- Jakku battle 2022

-Palpatine 2023 (Have Darth Plaguies and how they find old sith holograms and explore the teachings of Darth Bane)

- Movie set  right when the  first order vs the new republic start the war 2024

-Darth Bane 2025 (if the mention old sith in episode 8. This could start to lead into Nights of The Old Republic Era)

-Battlefront movie  group of rebel soldiers on battle similar to Rogue One and Saving Private feel set in between episode IV and episode V 2026

Knights of the old Republic I 2027

-Snoke and the knights of Ren 2028

Knights of the old Republic II 2029

The bendu 2030 (could be introduced in Snoke/Knights of Ren)

Knights of the Old Republic III 2031

Spinoff  10 years before episode 1 2032

spinoff 2033 count dooku movie

spinoff 2034

star wars episode x 2035

spinoff 2036

star wars episode XI 2036

spinoff 2037

star wars episode XII 2038

TV shows

- Star Wars animated kid show set in between episode 6-7. Maybe have it about Luke and Ben training 2019-2014 about five season long

-Bounty Huner animated series aimed at teens and adults. I would prefer animated since it would look as cheap as a live action.  Have it be on Netflix 2020-2024

Star Wars animated series set during the events of episode VII-IX 2025-2030

star Wars animated series about the first Jedi and Sith 2026-2031

I'd honestly love for the Knights of The Old Republic storyline to be reintegrated into canon. There's already lots of hints and refs already ((Malachor turning up in Rebels, The Hammerhead Corvettes in Rebels and now Rogue One, the Propaganda book by Pablo Hidalgo canonizing the Old Republic era)) but my only worry would be if it were done as a film, Revan would be removed from canon.

Knights of the Old Republic hands down.

And more than 1 movie. A duology, trilogy, whatever, but more than 1.

KOTOR the game is huge so yeah it'd require a trilogy.

The thing with Malachor is that Rebels seems to have significantly changed it, from a taboo Mandalorian world shattered by a Jedi/Republic WMD to some ancient place of conflict between the Jedi and Sith.

The main issue with a KOTOR movie/series would be how you handle Revan and the Exile, as they could be any gender, any race, any disposition. The old EU made official Revan/Exile characters (Revan male, Exile female), but they also gave the Exile a pretty LOL bad name and Bioware basically used her as chump lightsaber fodder so that they could make their own sandbox for TOR and kinda dump on Obsidian.

Plus after The Force Awakens got backlash for having a plot that kinda amps off ANH, a faithful KOTOR movie would get the same attacks.

That said, the time to strike is now because we have an age-appropriate dead ringer for Carth Onasi

It's a 13+-year old game. Statute of Limitations has long passed.

Tbh I almost would prefer if KOTOR got a canon-compliant game remake with modern graphics. Would allow all of the old KOTOR characters to be kept, but reworked to fit better. To be fair on Malachor, it's not said what it was before that big destructive battle. Just that there was a super weapon fired on it and that neither side won ((Much like the fate of Malachor V)).

I think the trilogy  could be about Revan and Darth Malak war about finding the star forge, staring the civil war,  and Revan betrayal to defeat Malak. Change it up slightly up from game.

I think preserving the twist would serve the story a lot more, IMO

But it would be so well known. The point of the Kotor is you are Reven so making his own character would serve the story the best.

Well known to the core fans, Commander, not to the casual audience.

I'm of two minds. On the one hand, preserving the twist with KOTOR in the traditional format gives you a bang-bang trilogy with a big shock in the Act 2 climax that turns everyone upside down.

On the other hand, doing a long-form series starting with Revan, Malak, the Exile, etc as Jedi and following them into the Mandalorian Wars and beyond into the KOTORs eliminates the twist, but also creates a potentially deeper saga of tragedy, failure, and redemption.

Why not both?

First start with Revan's story of being an unknown and the big twist and how he defeats Malak. And top it up with a movie that explains what came before, the mandalorian wars, etc (a la Rogue One)

Ok that might be too audacious, Disney would never let that happen.

Age is the problem with that. Since you end up with an older actor playing a younger version of the character they started out as.

Also unlike the PT, which dealt with a different generation and different story that is linked, this would be a prequel that deals with the same generation and the same story (just an earlier chapter). Wouldn't have the same narrative hook to drive interest.

Logically, one of the next places for the canon to expand to would be a film (or 2-3) about the fall of the Sith a millennium prior to the PT, with Darth Bane, etc.

But with social media it would be spoiled. Look how many causal fans talk about Snoke and Rey.

In the original game there is a crawl, and as we now know, Lucasfilm don't intend for the anthology movies to have a crawl at all.

Which means we have to insert this marvelous exposition...

KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC
Four thousand years before
the rise of the Galactic
Empire, the Republic verges
on collapse. DARTH MALAK,
last surviving apprentice of
the Dark Lord Revan, has
unleashed an invincible
Sith armada upon an
unsuspecting galaxy.

Crushing all resistance,
Malak's war of conquest
has left the Jedi Order
scattered and vulnerable
as countless Knights fall in
battle, and many more
swear allegiance to the new
Sith Master.

In the skies above the Outer
Rim world of Taris, a Jedi
battle fleet engages the
forces of Darth Malak in a
desperate effort to halt the
Sith's galactic domination…

... at various spots throughout the movies, and with a strong emphasis on "Show, don't tell", of course. A good spot to put these would be during Revan's Jedi training. His masters could explain this casually, since he will ask lots of questions, or something like that.

I have to say, Anthology film or not, this movie would benefit A LOT from having a crawl... whatever

The problem with KOTOR's current opening is that it assumes you've read the crawl, and even then, it's by far the most boring part of the story (escaping the ship)

No idea what to do to correct this :(
