iceroll
I really hope China connects with this film. Is Lionsgate distributing the movie there or is it another studio?

iceroll
Alice in Wonderland did pretty well. But generally big Hollywood movies don't have primarily female protagonists so there isn't much precedence for this.
Robertron
I hope it can reach 700m WW. That would be fantastic.700m WW would be brilliant. But it's a shame OS didn't catch on like NA otherwise that number would be A LOT higher (exceptions being AUS & UK)
iceroll
Oh shit guys, I think this will be big in China: 'Hunger Games' set for Imax screens in China: Pic will be one of first under new revenue-sharing agreement http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-05-24/entertainment/sns-201205241120reedbusivarietynvr1118054599-20120524_1_imax-screens-china-film-group-corp-chinese-market

Cedarpoint1111
So do we have any projections for upcoming release in China and Japan?
CJohn
Not really since it opens in the same weekend of Prometheus, which makes it even more unpredictable.
Cedarpoint1111
I think THG will make more than Prometheus in China.Japan I have no idea though because that is where Battle Royal comes from. Edited May 28, 2012 by CEDAR

A Marvel Fanboy
I really hope China connects with this film. Is Lionsgate distributing the movie there or is it another studio? No. China Film Group Corp and Huaxia Film Distribution Co. distribute THG. All revenue-shared hollywood films in China are distributed by the TWO Chinese companies. But Lionsgate can get 25% from the gross.I think THG will make more than Prometheus in China.I dont think so. Buzz of Prometheus here is quite huge. But Prometheus was delayed to nowhere from June in China.
John Marston
For some reason I thought China was the only market remaining... When does Japan open?Japan opens in September. I doubt it will do that good there due to all the Battle Royale comparisons and because most people probably would have downloaded a DVD rip by then lol

iceroll
Oh no that sucks... why aren't they promoting it more? Who sets the budgets on the marketing for Hollywood films in China?
A Marvel Fanboy
Oh no that sucks... why aren't they promoting it more? Who sets the budgets on the marketing for Hollywood films in China?Studios (LG) pay most of the marketing.
iceroll
Damn it this is the problem of having a small studio as the distributor... Just pay up Lionsgate, there's so much potential for this movie in China!

Just pay up Lionsgate, there's so much potential for this movie in China!this is not the way they do it in china. i am not an expert, but i believe lionsgate is doing their best. in fact, cameron knows very well why he wants next avatars to be co produced with china. bigger box office share (by the time avatar 3 hits the theaters, chinese box office revenues will be about the us boxoffice revenue) and of course more control with marketing in such a lucrative region. A Marvel Fanboy
Yeah, Lionsgate is doing their best on THG in China. At least CF will benefit from that.
