Hindsight is 20-20 on the movie looking to tank this hard but those were always bad points.

 

Joker certainly doesn't have the cultural impact OP is implying it has, this is like the opposite of "Avatar 2 won't do well because the first one didn't have cultural impact (memes)"

 

Captain Marvel wasn't carried by China, it was big outside of it with $980M.

 

DC brand was absolutely not in the gutter in 2019, Aquaman had crossed a billion and Shazam was decently profitable, JL was the only flop during those years, compared that to 2020s DC where 9 out of the 10 movies have flopped, including the sequels to Aquaman/Shazam. Joker absolutely benefited from MCU's success just like every other DC movie.

 

Online engagements mean nothing for DC movies, this point being made after The Flash's performance is hilarious lol
