Still not as bad as Corden being the only acting representation for The Prom. Shit should qualify as a hate crime or something. The backlash the overall WTF nominations have received in a year of no movies is proof that not everything will be different in post-pandemic life. HFPA are still gonna HFPA.

BoxOfficeFangrl
Is Glenn finally going to win an Oscar via Zoom for a movie under 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes? LMAO Music, really? The HFPA really could have just let Promising Young Woman be a comedy. Mulligan might just go all the way in Best Actress. She'll probably get the Globe. Who knew voters were eager to make sure Leto isn't a one-nominee wonder? Even Warner Bros didn't seem to think they had an awards contender on their hands... Is it really going to be The Trial of the Chicago 7 as our Best Picture? It feels like a Globes Drama winner, at least. It's between that and Nomadland for the winner IMO.

It's hardly a secret that the HFPA often nominate (and sometimes even reward - Aaron Taylor-Johnson, anyone?) people on the basis of whoever schmoozed them the most or simply because they want them at the ceremony as either presenters or nominees. How else does one explain why Cate Blanchett was nominated last year for that forgotten flop no one saw that I'm pretty sure even the studio didn't campaign for? The reports of complete lack of black membership in the organization is terrible, though. No doubt they'll be working on correcting that soon.

lorddemaxus
@Eric and Jerry the show is today. Could you move this to the main thread?
filmlover
Fully expecting the ratings for this to be disastrous even with the potential "trainwreck" factor. No true buzz surrounding anything and these "virtual" ceremonies just aren't as enjoyable as the usual shindigs.
