Yes, but not enough to sacrifice seeing their spectacle they paid for. Did it die in 2008? Before that you basically had Spider-Man 1 and 2, Batman Begins, and X2 with good character development. Post-2008 the situation got much better. For posterity though, the answers are yes, yes, yes, no.
