"Honig im Kopf" is still havin an incredible run, #1 for 2014 is locked and it should reach 6,5mil total! At the end of the charts, Paddington is crawling along nicely but won't reach 2mil. FF4 dropped nearly 40%, it's now likely this will be the first of the franchise to miss 1mil total (until now, each entry managed to grow by about 10%). Next week: Some interesting openers: domestic comedy "Traumfrauen" gows up against HiK and FMmw; families get "Spongebob 3D", horror fans "Woman in Black 2", history fans "Selma", and there's even "Into the Woods" for the few musically inclined - a 4-quadrant weekend, theaters should be packed! But the biggest question is how much 50SoG will drop ... if it follows the Twilight franchise, expect something in the range of 45% to 50%.
IndustriousAngel
First trend for Germany's weekend: #1: 50SoG - 700k admissions (-50%, in line with Twilight movies, expect close to 4mil total) #2: Spongebob - 500k - wow! #3: Traumfrauen - 375k - also a good start! #4: Honig im Kopf - 210k (-25%, and over 5.8mil total already!) "Into the Woods" might reach 100k, ok for a musical - "Woman in Black 2" is trending to 40k, not so good. Overall, as expected a very strong weekend with something for everyone!

HiK with another super hold, setting its sight to 7mil total! Fine openings from Spongebob and domestic comedy Traumfrauen! Even "Into the Woods" did ok for a musical! FF4 had an increase (family stuff as a whole was very good this weekend) but it won't be enough to reach the million total I'd say. Next weekend: No rest for the wicked, with wide openers "Astérix - la domaine des dieux" and "American Sniper" there are two new releases with hit potential, and most holdovers should be doing fine again - HiK might already become #1 of 2014 releases. 2015 is really shaping up to be a fiiiine year for theaters and distributors, with the "real" blockbusters yet to be released.

The new Astérix is a bit below my expectations but maybe it'll have good drops. Domestic comedy "Traumfrauen" with a wonderful drop, as "Honig im Kopf" which is now the #1 2014 release in Germany (in admissions of course, moneywise Hobbit3 is out of reach). The Oscars pushed Birdman and ToE a lot - nice totals over 500k admissions for each! Spongebob 3D seems very frontloaded, -45% drop is crazy when you compare it to other family stuff. Next week: No blockbusters, but a lot of medium-to-small releases: "Metegol" from Argentina, "Chappie" from SA, "Focus" from WillSmithLand, "Seventh Son" and "Still Alice" from the US (a bit late for the Oscar ride, no?), "La famille Bélier" from France (which might become a blockbuster, you never know with those comedies - sometimes they connect and go boom like "Intouchables" or last year's "Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu"), and british nature doc "Afrika". Not every one of those releases can succeed but I'll be damned if I can see which ones are flopping... 50SoG will stay on top. Going by presales at my theater: Chappie is a bit stronger than Focus (despite being on the smaller screen), can't say nothing about the Béliers since Austria got a later release date.
IndustriousAngel
After last weekend, the final Top10 for 2014 in Germany are as follows: title admissions dist. 1 Honig im Kopf 6.112.868* WB 2 The Hobbit 3 6.058.094* WB 3 Mockingjay 1 3.939.756 SC 4 Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu? 3.765.658 NV 5 How to Train your Dragon 2 2.723.730 FOX 6 Transformers 4 2.507.657 PAR 7 The Wolf of Wall Street 2.400.242 U 8 Vaterfreuden 2.367.567 WB 9 Paddington 1.946.551* SC 10 Guardians of the Galaxy 1.790.887 WD *still in release Paddington and Hobbit 3 - while still in release - won't add much; neither will H3 reach 6.1mil nor Paddington 2.0mil. "Honig im Kopf" is a real surprise - most had it pegged at 3mil tops, with its difficult Alzheimer theme, but it's running and running and might even hit 7mil in the end. French comedy "QecqoafaBD" was a pleasant surprise, too - extremely leggy run with a 20x multiplier (from a 155k opening weekend excluding previews, even including previews it's still nearly a 19x multiplier!) Overall, 2014 has been pretty poor with only 4 releases crossing the "blockbuster" treshold of 3mil (and that's stretching the meaning of blockbuster imho, Germany has more than 80mil inhabitants). Of course, we're hoping for a better 2015 - with SW7, Spectre, Minions, FJG2 and MJ2 there's at least 5 more movies that I see crossing the 3mil (50SoG has already done it and will cross 4). Plus, there's a whole bunch of releases which have the potential to make it, and maybe the odd breakout like this year's QecqoafaBD. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 2015's Top10 will consist exclusively of 3mil+ blockbusters! Final numbers for Austria are not yet available but overall 2014 has been even shittier than in Germany, mainly because the german comedies don't do that well in Austria, and there's little domestic stuff to make up for it. (Mind, that's always compared to earlier years - if you compare Austria to Germany, we Austrians are still ahead by about 10 - 15% when it comes to movie-going)
IndustriousAngel
aaand here's the trend fro Germany's weekend - and while 50SoG is of on top as expected, the openers are small to major disappointments. #1: 50SoG - 260k (-45%) #2/3: AS / Traumfrauen, 200k each #4: Focus - 120k (and that's including some previews) #5: HiK -115k (-35%, hmm will be difficult to reach 7mil total) #6: Sponge - 100k Chappie is trending towards 85k, the Béliers even lower - 7thSon, Alice below 50k and Metegol a complete flop.
