Five domestic releases in the lead, the winner is one of those movies targeted at very young children and I have to say, it reached a number that I would consider satisfying even under pre-Corona conditions! The comedy Takeover otoh came in lower than I expected. Overall business is still poor but now we have a silver lining - people do still want to go to the movies. Next weekend: Gretel and Hansel - doesn't seem that interesting, reviews are mixed. Semper Fi - I guess it's the Covid times or does this really warrant a theatrical release?! Harriet - maybe it can profit from the BLM trend, else I'd see little appeal. Scoob! - that seems like something with a lot of potential if it could get some WOM, only I don't know about marketing. Hope it doesn't bomb completely. 3
el sid
Our weekend looked ca. like that: #1 Paw Patrol - Mighty Pups 35k admissions on Sunday (its day of release) #2 Meine Freundin Conni - Geheimnis um Kater Mau 32.5k (down only ca. -10%) #3 Scooby! Voll verwedelt 22.5k #4 Takeover - Voll vertauscht 20k (also ca. -10%) #5 Gretel & Hansel 20k #6 Harriet 11.5k ... Undine 10k Die Känguru-Chroniken 10k Das Beste kommt noch 5.5k Compared to last weekend the top 10 increased by 33% (of course the increase would look better if Paw Patrol would have had the whole weekend – probably it will help in the future). And by the way I already saw several TV-spots and online-advertisement for Unhinged with R. Crowe which is released here on Thursday. Even if numbers are low (not a single three-digit PTA) that has to be a good sign. I hope. Next weekend: Bio-Dramedy Our Current War would be a black horse at normal times but with a little starpower and numbers as low as they are, it might move up the charts. The same goes for Sports drama The Way Back - Basketball is steadily growing more popular, so who knows? Plus some documentaries, a domestic comedy, and a Polish medieval actioner (Krew Boga) from 2018, freshly dubbed - one of those titles that would have gone directly to streaming or DVD before Corona.

IndustriousAngel
Thanks to Corona, there are still no monthly charts from the Austrian Film Institute but at least, now there's the chart for the first half of the year, plus weekly numbers have returned: https://filminstitut.at/film/kinocharts It seems Austrian cinemas are faring quite a bit better than in Germany: With about 1/10th of Germany's inhabitants, Unhinged scored >3.000 admissions in Austria last weekend (and keep in mind, the Austrian weekend is Fri-Sun, compared to Germany's Thu-Sun). Ok, Unhinged was only in week2 here whike it was in week4 in Germany, but that's still a biiiig difference, total in Austria was already >12k after weekend 2; after Germany's weekend #2 it was only at 57k. 1

Thanks to little competition, holdovers manage to collect a steady trickle of admissions … Next weekend: Tenet will be the first big release since the Covid crisis and we'll see how that works out. With seating restricted and people still reluctant to enjoy themselves indoors, we can't expect wonders, but I'd be happy with, say, 400k admissions in Germany until Sunday (plus 50-60k in Austria). That number would be enough (I hope) to encourage distributors to put more of their products on the big screens again.
