... and final numbers are again a little better for nearly everything! Nice success for the three openers on top, and LaLaLand had a small increase again, 1mil total are safe by now. Excellent, Germany is a difficult market for musicals!

In Austria, Split didn't do anywhere near as well, xXx and Why Him stayed on top, Split is only #3. RE6 in contrast did a bit better than in Germany.

Good weekend, a bit crowded with five new releases in the Top10. Split was a big step up for NMS, definitely a success. Wendy shows that the girl/horse combo is always a draw, let's wait for next weekend to judge how frontloaded it was. Both domestic comedies have a fine PTA and should hold well, with only 155 theaters last weekend i can even see a slight expansion for Kundschafter des Friedens.

Among holdovers,  Moana made near 100k - the 2mil total is not yet dead; only a 17% drop against Wendy is a good sign. Passengers suffered a hard drop but has now crossed 1mil total. And LaLaLand managed an increase, again, and still has a very good PTA - nice! Rogue One seems very close to the 4mil total but I guess it will miss it by a few k.

Next weekend: Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, Hidden Figures, Live By Night, domestic thriller Volt, two smaller horror releases, plus domestic family film / book adaption Timm Thaler - some interesting stuff but no hits so I guess Split and LaLaLand will stay on top. No presales worth mentioning for any of the new releases at my theater …

ROGUE ONE (3.869.260 Besucher) ist der 6. STAR WARS-FILM nach 78, 80, 83, 99, 15, der der erfolgreichste Film des Jahres in Deutschland ist

Rogue One is the 6th Star Wars movie to top the year end charts in Germany. But tbh, this isn't quiet fair, since no movie from the OT crowned the year in their original release. Only if you take account of all re-releases they are ahead of the game.

And now that it seems sure Fack Ju Göhte 3 gets a 2017 release, SW8 won't have it too easy either - might become a head-to head fight for #1!

In addition, Hacksaw Ridge is #21 with 20/30k. As I said the film was dumped theater-wise and I did not see one advertisement on TV but I have to admit, obviously there was also no interest. The Passion had 204k/in total 1.35 Mio. admissions despite or because of the controversy so I don't get it. Maybe that HR is WWII related (too dark, too gory) or that A. Garfield isn't really well known here didn't help or the too crowded marketplace or whatever...
Probably a Gibson-directed Viking movie with a popular leading actor will do much better...

I just saw that "Rings" gets more than 300 theaters this weekend ... that's good, and with a lot of frontloading (not unusual for the franchise) it should make it at least to #3 but maybe even to 200k. On the other hand, the last one is more than 10 years past, rarely a good thing for a franchise.

The Thursday estimates (source insidekino.de/forum):

New Releases:

Timm Thaler: ?k (starts in 550 theaters, good to very good reviews)
Rings: 12.5k (304, one bad review) - so indeed it will probably not cross the 100k mark this weekend
Live by Night: 2k (165, mediocre and good reviews)
Hidden Figures: 8k (132, good to very good reviews) – that's not bad and other reports show the same image
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk: ?k (103, much better than in America → good to very good reviews, despite several complaints nowhere in the high frame rate of 120 frames per second or even 3D)
Raees: ?k (only ca. 30 theaters but the film has at least one showtime/day e.g. in mathäser, no reviews)
Volt: ?k (25-30, mostly good reviews)

Holdovers:

Split: 24k (35k) – even if it's overestimated like last Thursday, a good hold is coming
La La Land: 18k (20.5k) – was always underestimated in the estimates in the last weeks, but so or so a very good hold is more than likely
Resi Evil 6: 8.5k (18k)
Mein Blind Date mit dem Leben: 11.5k (11.5) - a very good hold
xXx3: 8k (12.5k)

The soft openers make it easy for holdovers, some good numbers if first estimates from insidekino.de hold:

#1: Split - 240k (-11%, excellent, 1mil locked)

#2: LLLand - 165k (+6%, 3rd increase, nice)

#3/4: BlindDate / Wendy 125k each (-12% for Wendy, slight increase for BD)

#5: Rings - 100k

Timm Thaler also with about 100k but I think that number includes a lot of previews

Of course, next weekend 50shades2 gets the biggest screens and best showtimes so most evening releases are in for hard drops.
