Big opener Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stayed within expectations, sadly nearly all holdovers suffered harsh drops, so the general uptick in business I was expecting didn't materialise. Still, four domestic releases in the Top5, that's something to cherish!

In Austria, very similar numbers (Rheingold with an increase so it's now on Germany's level) - btw, in Austria, Ticket to Paradise has crossed 200k admissions, very nice run and another case of Austria far outgrossing Germany!

Next weekend: No really big releases but romcom Einfach mal was Schönes might become #2 and further strengthen the dominance of domestic releases! And as a dark horse, The Magic Flute is seeking an audience - it's a pretty unusual and bold concept, let's hope it doesn't flop, I'm always for leaving the trodden path!

A lot of releases >10k admissions, that's one of the good news - a strong domestic lineup (5 from the Top 7) the other. Einfach mal was Schönes opened within, The Menu above expectations and The Magic Flute is an outright flop. Black Panther 2 had a good drop; Rheingold a bit steeper but 1mil total should still be possible.

In Austria, the weekend was similar with Einfach mal was Schönes doing worse, The Magic Flute better than in Germany.

Next weekend: The big opener will be Strange Worlds which should make #2 even if presales are more or less non-existent …

Avatar 2 (Dec 14th) Ba-Wü Preview Seat Report T-21

Sellouts Shows Seats Sold Total Seats % Sold
Total 0 222 1,451 43,901 3.31%

Total Seats Sold: 1,451

Comp

0.440x DS 2 T-21 (0.75M€/71.000 Adm. OD)

2.879x Thor LT T-21 (3.32M€/317.500 Adm. OD)

Yeah, nothing really to predict. Too much scattering, will have to wait for more comps.

But interesting to see that avatar 2 already has more shows and total seats 3 weeks out than bp2 had at t-0.

And Wednesday Previews start at 0:01 on Wednesday. :D This is getting out of hand. Why stop there, just do a james bond and preview the movie for a whole week.

When did you start tracking JWD and TGM. 300K OD wouldn't be surprising.

I have first numbers for TGM at T-20, so tomorrow, and JWD at T-15 unfortunately. black panther will start with comps at t-19.

300k OD? you're making me excited. just Imagine a 300k OD combined with the legs of Avatar 1. Monster 😲

I mean bigger OD would likely lead to smaller legs. I am expecting 1.5M 5-days, Mark keep telling me to be bit conservative, but what the hell. 1.5M 5-days FTW.

Who could have known that if you don't bother mentioning to anyone that your movie will be in theaters, that hardly anyone will watch?

It's one thing for Netflix to "steal" what would likely be a minor hit from theaters by only giving it a short limited release before it hits streaming a month later. But to totally botch said release and throw away money they could make, is simply beyond me. It's not like marketing the theatrical release would hurt. It would also work as marketing for the streaming release. Instead you basically don't get any marketing at all in Germany, and to no one's surprise hardly anyone goes to see it in theaters.

Heck, if I hadn't accidentaly seen the name of the movie as I was passing by a theater on my way to work, I wouldn't have known that the one week theatrical release also applied to Germany as well, and I'm someone who has been anticipating Glass Onion for quite some time now...

Yes, Christmas markets and the championship at the same time are definitely problematic for the theaters. But let's see, one problem could be solved in a few hours...
