Michael Hanekes "Liebe" ("Amour"), winner of this years "Palme d'or" at Cannes, had a very decent start too, more than 50k admissions in Austria + Germany and the highest PTA - in Austria it was even nr. 5 this weekend.

Decent but not overwhelming opening for RE5; still the only german franchise doing international business. Good opening for "Amour" and "Diary" (which Fox released in Germany only). Most films had good holds, Expendables was hit much harder than BL.

The coming weekend has two wide openers - "Hope Springs" for the more sophisticated audiences and actioner "Schutzengel" for the fast food generation. On a smaller scale, "That's My Boy" will try to dig into the comedy demo where "Ted" is showing some staying power. "Looper" is also opening in some theaters with previews and should expand the week after.

First trend for Germany's weekend: "Schutzengel" and "Hope Springs" on 1 and 2 with 175k and 140k, RE5 third with 125k but should end up second dollar-wise depending on 3D share.

Ok weekend for almost everything.

This weekend, the opening of Madagascar3 overshadows everything else. Other notable openers: The Campaign, A.Lincoln Vampire Hunter, On the Road, and my pick of the week, "Die Wand", an adaption of one of Austria's best novels, a very intense last-woman-on-earth tale.

First trend for Germany: Very strong weekend, MAD3 with about the same opening as IA4 earlier this year, easily topping 1 million admissions; also reasonable openings from ALVH and Looper with 135k and 120k, and last week's "Schutzengel" and "Hope Springs" have good drops (Hope Springs nearly flat).

Sunday trend: Everything seems to be a bit up from prior estimates, bad weather is driving business towards a good overall weekend. MAD3 might top 1,5 million admissions including previews.
