Sunny weather, weak weekend … at least, thanks to three wide openers, four releases in the 6-digit-range. Paw Patrol 2 is doing fine, this movie will probably show some excellent legs throughout fall … The Nun 2 with an astonishing hold, good WOM I guess. The Creator opened so-so and Wochenendrebellen did better than I expected, should also have fine legs. Elemental is really struggling to get to that 2mil watermark … Oppenheimer should hit 4mil total soon and Barbie has a slight chance at 6mil, maybe the distributor can push it there by an event with cheap tickets!

In Austria, The Top 3 were the same - PP2 and Nun stronger than in Germany, but Creator with a <10k admissions WE.

Next weekend: One more kiddie movie, Checker Tobi 2, and a the new Exorcist movie are the wide openers, both with a possible six-digit-OW, but weather is still very nice so don't expect any wonders.

thanks ... I had the impression Austria was only slightly ahead with The Nun 2 but in fact ist's nearly doubling Germany's numbers - PawPatrol2 even stronger

early weekend estimates from insidekino.de:

#1: PawPatrol 2 - 150k admissions (-27%)

#2: Checker Tobi 2 - 160k (incl a lot of previews)

#3: Nun 2 - 115k (-32%, good with Exorcist opening)

#4: Wochenendrebellen - 105k (was bound to be leggy but flat would be awesome)

#5: Exorcist - around 100k OW, struggling a bit

#6: Creator - 90k (-15%, cool if true)

while it's unclear how ranking order will play out between #2-#5, overall it's an ok weekend without a blockbuster but with a wide selection of attractive releases.

The second trend from insidekino.de:

#1 Paw Patrol 150k
#2 Checker Tobi und die Reise zu den fliegenden Flüssen 150k
#3 Wochenendrebellen 105k
#4 The Nun II 95k
#5 The Exorcist 80k
#6 The Creator 75k
#7 The Equalizer 3 37.5k
#8 A Haunting in Venice 32.5k
#9 Oppenheimer 30k
#10 Barbie 27.5k

...

Freelance 20k

That went in the wrong direction. Where I live it's very cloudy but maybe the weather is still too good in other regions. Still I hope that the final trend looks better again.

A bad-to-ok weekend with a lot of attractive releases but no big hit; the two leading releases are family movies with low ticket prices. The Exorcist was underperforming, not even able to beat the 3rd weekend of  Nun 2. Oppenheimer has crossed 4mil total, wow. Domestic adaption Wochenendrebellen is having good legs as expectet of such a movie, 1mil total not impossible.

In Austria, similar numbers with family stuff leading the charts; plus domestic crime comedy Pulled Pork on #2 with a nice OW (while Wochenendrebellen is doing much worse than in ist home market). Rehragout Rendezvous has crossed 300k admissions total (like its predesessor), a Golden Ticket - congratulations!

Next weekend: Weather still pretty sunny (Sunday might become rainier) so no help there; but there are two big openers - the Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie is only opening on Friday but it should win the weekend with ease, presales looking very good. And a new adaption of a classical Germany's children's / YA book, Das fliegende Klassenzimmer - might also be good for a six-digit-OW though presales are looking lackluster.

early weekend estimates from insidekino.de without the Taylor Swift movie which should be #1 at least today

#1: PawPatrol2 - 175k (a little up from last weekend)

#2: CheckerTobi2 - 150k (nearly 30% up)

#3: Klassenzimmer - 130k (excellent I'd say, presales were not that high)

#4: Wochenendrebellen - 110k (3rd weekend with those numbers, super leggy it seems)

#5: Creator - 65k

The two horror releases are dropping steeply, probably got hit hardest by Tylor Swift?!

so, overall a more satisfying weekend - many holdovers with increases plus Tylor Swift (let's hope we'll get actual numbers at all for that one)

final estimates for Germany, sadly nearly everything lower than early estimates:

#1: PawPatrol2 - 155k

#2: CheckerTobi2 - 130k (still up from OW)

#3: Wochenendrebellen - 105k

#4: Taylor Swift - 97k (maybe six-digit with actuals?)

#5: Klassenzimmer - 90k (pretty frontloaded - maybe school shows Thu/Fri? the 130k estimate seemed very optimistic anyway)

#6/7: Creator and Nun2- 65k each

An ok weekend for width but no hits in sight; openers stayed within expectations (though Dogman's PTA ist just pathetic) and there were fine drops or even increases for holdovers - Wochenendrebellen seems on a way to >1mil total! A bit down the chart, Elemental has now passed 2mil total - who would have thought after the >170k OW, that will be a multiplier >12 in the end! Taylor Swift won the weekend by € thanks to stellar ticket prices but the result wasn't as good as in other markets. The problem here is that half-empty shows for such an event movie won't generate positive WOM, I expect a steep drop.

In Austria, similar numbers with the addition of domestic crime comedy Pulled Pork on #2. (In contrast, Wochenendrebellen doesn't work here)

Next weekend: Some attractiv new releases (though once more no big hits) - #1 will probably go to Killers of the Flower Moon, and for the kids, the 3rd Trolls movie will try to find a spot among the strong holdovers. Domestic comedy Ein Fest fürs Leben (remake of a french one) might also attract some business though a 6-digit-OW seems nearly impossible; it will be more interesting how much of an impact it will have on domestic competition Wochenendrebellen.

early weekend estimates for Germany from insidekino.de:

#1 (by admissions): Trolls 3 - 200k

#2: Killers of the Flower Moon - 140k (#1 by €)

#3: Checker Tobi 2 - 110k (-23%)

#4: Paw Patrol 2 - 100k (-40%)

#5: Wochenendrebellen - 90k (-19%)

I thought Trolls3 might have some problems thanks to popular family holdovers, but it seems to be the other way round - Paw Patrol gets hit hard!

Overall still a mediocre weekend, especially in € since many of the popular movies have very low ticket prices.

tbf it's not an action film like Revenant or Django are, and the runtime is surely scaring away some potential viewers.

Django was probably hugely helped by having a German character. Germany was easily the largest OS market in that movie's case, which is a rare occurrence.

Honestly I wasn't interested but maybe that's an exception.

But I remember that Django had a bigger marketing campaign und also got way more talking before the release.

KotFM wasn't ignored but I also didn't notice a real hype (Barbenheimer worked here too). If it would have become a big hit in the USA, that would have helped here.

KotFM's opening is only slightly behind the expectations - Mark_G and the members of insidekino.de didn't expect wonders. But at least they predict nice legs.
