Is that me or the end of the year is gonna suck  in terms of box office?

Apart from Ralph Breaks the Internet and Fantastic Beasts 2 what do we have?

Venom - October 4

Grinch - November 8

Aquaman - December 13

Bumblebee - December 20

Mary Poppins - December 20 (not sure how that'll do)

there will probably be more developments before year end

Mary Poppins will probably flop here. Kids and teens don't know who she is and will only remember her from Guardians 2.

Yes, Mary Poppins should do well in Europe/USA/Japan but flop in the rest of the world because thre's no nostalgia there.

Are Brazil playing tomorrow?? (Friday)?

I’m assuming if they are it’ll have a massive impact.

They'll play tomorrow but it'll be 8:00am there so it won't really impact movies because most of the business happens at night.

So exactly like the market for SW?

That's a pretty fair comparison, this franchise developed in a similar era in the same nations so it's likely to be the same.

Youth in developing nations have very different tastes and aspirations while older audiences there also discover rgeaters for 1st time and try to find something to their taste (particularly local movies when there's an offer).

I remember @Fullbuster saying that politics can affect box office in Brazil. How? What's your reading on Brazil's presidential election? Jair Bolsonaro v Marina Silva in runoff looking likely?

I didn't follow Brazilian politics lately, or even politics as a whole because it creates stress and anxiety.

And yes, politics can definitely affect the BO through exchange rates. If Bolsonaro is elected I expect a consequential loss of value for the Brazilian Real, which would make the box office atrocious to levels we never saw before so Aquaman, Venom, Fantastic Beasts 2..etc..would take a big hit.

Marina Silva I'm not sure, I think the value of the Real wouldn't fluctuate, or not by much, if she's not part of these corruption schemes and is clean then she could help increasing the value of the BR on the long run, maybe.

I personally expect a terrible exchange rate at least until summer 2020 at best.
