Fullbuster
China might surpass the USA in 2020 I will believe it when I see it. For now the US is the first market and that's perfectly fine. This market gave us incredible runs with Avatar at $760m, Titanic at $658m and The Avengers at $623m, and The Avengers 2 could go beyond the sky, it's far from over China is still far from that. Fullbuster
Hence the year 2020 (yearly 5000 new cinemas....) In the 70s most of geopolitical experts expected the USSR to win the Cold War.And the USSR collapsed in 1991. In the 80s economic experts expected Japan to pass the USA in 2010, becoming the world's biggest economy. In 2008/2009 most of energy experts expected the US to run out of gas, importing huge amounts of gas from Qatar and Russia, and as a result these countries invested billions of dollars to be prepared, to export their gas and they were salivating about this perspective --> The shale revolution happened and in 2012 the US passed Russia as biggest gas producer and these last few months they passed Saudi Arabia as biggest oil producer. About China : A few years ago economic experts forecasted a growth around 9-10% in China and now it's around 7% and would be lower without this huge amount of spending by China and its regions (stimulus). Most of predictions about the US are completely wrong, life learned me this. So I repeat : I won't believe it before I see it.

I knew all of those details ~ I understand what you mean (and I think Chinas economy already is slowing down and I also think the increasing speed of BO will slow down for BO too, but I see for now not one indicator about China not taking #1 at 2020 or shortly after. It never hurts to be prepared IMHO
Hernan Gonzalez
You mean this market's revenues will be lower than in 2013? Probably.Do you really think that? I don't! 8AV alone did $77m!!! Maleficent and WoWS did good. Apes is doing good. And we still have Torrente 5 and a couple of other movies this year. Lucy opens today. Even "El Niño" I think could do good. In my heart the US market will always be the first This BO gave me such exciting moments, particularly when The Avengers got released, it was so huge

Fullbuster
UNITED STATES / CANADA 3D BOX OFFICE REVENUES 2008 : $0.2B 2009 : $1.1B 2010 : $2.2B 2011 : $1.8B 2012 : $1.8B 2013 : $1.8B The 3D Box Office got a glorious year in 2010, the after-effect of Avatar, but after that it was stagnation, and a decreasing share of the BO as a whole. In the developed world (North America, Europe, Japan) 3D is increasingly rejected, it was a short fad. However 3D is still growing in Latin America, Russia and Asia.
