There's a funny strategy from Disney for Incredibles 2 release; for obvious reasons the movie won't roll its run on June 15th midnight but won't do either at friday morning, instead it'll do at 9:00 PM of June 14th as the studio decided to do Thursday previews starting that time (although IMAX Perisur has a 11:00 PM show for some reason lol), which are anyway quite late for a family movie. As far as i've seen they're selling pretty good and are proving this isn't just for families.

Now enjoy a funny thing spotted on Mexico City streets

JUNE 08-10 WEEKEND. OCEAN'S 8 AND HEREDITARY OPEN ON TOP; OVERBOARD PASSES BLACK PANTHER AND DEADPOOL IS CLOSE TO $400M.

Ocean's 8
- Excellent start; 10% ahead of Ghostbusters and close to pass such titles as Orient Express, Atomic Blonde and Red Sparrow. As part of the 'theft' genre is above comps like Point Break (+50%) and summer 2013's Now You See Me (+30%) but behind Now You See Me 2 (-26%) and hey... is over Solo!
- Let's wait to next weekend result to see if can be a decent counter-programming.

Hereditary
- Slow start, behind The Witch and Don't Breathe for a few millions, we'll see if wom is as good as the one for those two.

So i just found out that Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro came to promote Sicario 2... today! They're at Mexico City and in this precise moment while i type this they're showing the movie to local media. The film is set to open on June 28, i don't know if was a great or a terrible idea to release it the exact weekend of elections.

And i really really don't want carry up myself for exciment yet but oh boy, those I2 presales look massive for an animation and huge for a SH title, previews are packed everywhere at main cities and OD is promising, if keeps the same consistency as MCU and develops an equally high level of walk-ups i think we're looking at $200M+ ($10M+ USD) OW.

Would Disney consider I2 a 3-day or a 4-day OW?

Don't know yet, i remember TS3 and HP6 also had this type of previews starting 7:00 PM but couldn't find nothing on them. Considering this one starts at 9:00 PM would make more sense to include them on Friday figures but guess we should wait and see.

Less than hour left for Incredibles 2 to open and since yesterday theatres everywhere have been adding more preview shows that have been filling pretty good, in some theatres and areas is outselling not just every animated comp but also finds itself beating most SH titles with exception of bigger PS driven installments such as BvS, AoU, CW and IW. Not expecting huge walk-ups for tonight since weather is affecting business in a large part of the country but this is looking to be insane, maybe second biggest 3-Day OW for the year.

EDIT. Screen count seems to be conservative for OD, about 4,000-4,100; should take on more as the weekend goes on. And forget about the rain, not even that can stop this, theatres at center and south keep adding shows for 10;00-10:30 PM and they're selling quickly; a theatre at east Mexico City even opened a 11:30 PM show!

Shortest period at nr1 IW ? :o

Btw I am super hyped for the numbers !!

Let's not go that far 😅
But looking at numbers in South America and tracking in the US looks like this is giving a run to Fallen Kingdom as 2nd biggest title of the year ($30M+), don't want to get much excited on USD gross since is near to historical levels :sadno:
