Since, 2015 onwards, here is the number of movies that grossed more than $25M at domestic boxoffice by year -

2015:  98

2016:  97

2017: 90

2018: 94

2019: 89

2021: 44

2022: 46

What would you predict for 2023 ?

Only movies opening in 2023? We already has 9 2023 movies with 25M+ or locked to reach that.

Looking at the release schedule
March: 6 movies (possibly 2 more)

April: 6 movies (possibly 2 more)

May: 4 movies (possibly 2 more)

June: 10 movies
July: 5 movies

August: 5 movies (possibly 2 more)

September: 5 movies

October: 4 movies (schedule still looks empty)

November: 5 movies (schedule still looks empty)

December: 4 movies (schedule still looks empty)

70 movies would be my prediction. 80 movies would mean great news.

Well it looks like 10 are locked to make it so far. There should be a steady stream throughout the spring and summer but it’s fairly empty in the fall and winter other than the big tentpole films. There just isn’t that much product that I think can perform that well. So I’m gonna guess 65. We still aren’t back to pre pandemic levels.

I've mentioned it elsewhere but the studios do have a lot of movies in the pipeline that don't have dates but almost certainly will be ready for the fall. Have to imagine as the year goes on they'll all be finding dates during that last third as everyone's going to be deciding what their main awards pushes will be.
