sgchn40
early numbers JBM 55m. Same as MH at this time yesterday. 145-165m projected MH 35. Down 40% from yesterday. 100-110m TMK 12.1m. Down just 5% with 33% showtime cut. 45-50m Shaun the sheep 3m. 8-10m projected These two will be down 90%+ this weekend TT 4-6m projected FY 4-6m Could be a 350m total Incredible! So we might have 2 local films with 100m opening on the same weekend. Edited July 17, 2015 by sgchn40
jiangsen
This is the first time three quality (in terms of public praise and word of mouth) commercial Chinese language films have been in theaters at the same time...should be an exciting weekend for the Chinese BO and proof that the market can stand on its own without Hollywood. CelestialFairyIX
I know this might sound idiotic of me to ask but are you guys referring to a $100 million opening or yuan? Sorry if this has already been addressed. PS: I know China BO = Yuan but roughly rounded to $26 million OW doesn't seem that large but $100 does. This is true but the thing is three (or even two) quality wide local releases releasing at the same time doesn't happen often. HLW movies can support the market on their own for maybe a couple of weeks. Similarly, local movies can support the market on their own for maybe a couple of weeks too, sometimes. But at the end, the market is so large that it needs movies from both continents to run at a healthy rate consistently. In a long term, cinemas will be in hungry without any of them. I know this might sound idiotic of me to ask but are you guys referring to a $100 million opening or yuan? Sorry if this has already been addressed. PS: I know China BO = Yuan but roughly rounded to $26 million OW doesn't seem that large but $100 does. I think sgchn40 meant $100m. But 2 local films with $100m opening on the same weekend is not happening this round. It's the summer, Saturday will be muted, plus both MH and BJM are heavily pre-sold. It's a new case so only Saturday grosses can give us a clear picture. Right now I think MH is heading to 550m+ / $88m 4days, JBM 350m+ / $56m 3days, waiting for Friday and Sat to revise. POTUS 2020
noon update midpoint on the day is hard to pin down with local movies. HLW movies are consistently around 1430 on sat. local midpoint is earlier. they should all at least double from 12pm and perhaps 10-20% more. 12pm MH 76m 150-180m JB 65m 130-150m TMK 36m 70-85m Total 191m 380-440m

By the way, I continue to be impressed by TMK's performance! It is making huge money with less than 20% of the screen times.
