After terrible OD (2.25M yuan), I thought 14M yuan tops 6-days opening. 18.5M turned out much better ......$10M total is possible.

A local ancient fantasy crap 3D film called Painted Skin 2 opened exclusively on about 5,000 3D screens Thursday in China and already scored big estimated 6M yuan ($0.95M) midnight, third highest ever (only behind TF3 and Titanic 3D).Opening day for the film looks extemely strong too, which could be as big as 50M yuan ($8M), highest ever for a local title (35% ahead of former 37M yuan record). Through Thursday-Sunday, PS2 is expected at least to post a huge 250M yuan ($40M) 4-days opening, also a record for locals.Painted Skin 2 costed no more than $15M to make and market, 3D convertion included.

Yeah, the story is well known in China, though not as well known as Snow White in West.Difference is it's a scary story not a fairytale. The original book, which is a collection of more than 400 strange stories, was writen in the 1670s by 蒲松龄.

I tryed to watch Painted Skin I english subtitled. The pictures are interesting, the music is annoying. But the acting looks almost like in silent movies. Always theatralic, gestures over emphasized. Edited June 28, 2012 by Rudolf
