A Marvel Fanboy
is RE5 getting a release there?May not happen anymore. China and Japan are not getting along with each other well recently .... Any mid week updates?Nope.
The Toymaker
Why would that make a difference?RE5 is not a Japanese movie. In fact, it is not affiliated with Japan at all apart from the game that is apparently based on. Japan would not be getting any of the money from a release in China. So banning it would not be a wise move, and would just affect Chinese cinemas more than the Japanese economy. The way to hurt japan would be to put sanctions on Japanese imports and manufacturing within China. Relatively little effect on Chinese companies and huge financial risk for Japan (who are already in a struggling debt crisis).

The Toymaker
It says RE5 is a Canadian and German property on imdb.
A Marvel Fanboy
doesnot matter. RE5 got delayed (at least no release in Oct) only because it is based on a Japanese game. even with a top Chinese actress, Li Bing Bing, in as a major role, can not save it. A Marvel Fanboy
Other Japanese movie, Detective Conan: The Eleventh Striker, got totally canceled.People are already worrying about Skyfall, only bacause it's a Sony distribution. (Even Sony has a very good relationship with the Chinese gov.)
The Toymaker
I love this type of thing. Hopefully China cancels ALL Japanese movies in the future. :lol:China will lose nothing really. Chinese movies don't exactly get released in Japan anyway.
A Marvel Fanboy
Japanese movie, except a few animations, always flop in China. Typical run for a live-action Japanese flick tends to rank 150+ at the yearly box office.Russian movies flop in China too.Europen and Korea movies can do decent business in China. dezorz
Is not Columbia 100% Japanese owned at the moment?Wondering when the first Holywood studio will be Chinese owned.columbia is 100 percent owned by sony. sony is publically traded company. it has issued 3,6B stocks of which 1B is publically traded. so approx. 28 percent of shares is not in sony´s hands. from that 1B publically traded stock options approx. 35 percent belongs to foreign companies and individuals, the rest is in japanese companies and individuals possesion. to sum up, sony is 90 percent japanese company.
dezorz
May not happen anymore. China and Japan are not getting along with each other well recently ....this is a big dropout for RE5 gross. it could earn, how much, 30M? 50M? in china? this, i think, will persuade most film investors to try to do any kind of chinese coproduction in future. The Toymaker
Chinese people embrace US, European and Korean cultures, so I can totally see why those countries' movies do well here.Keep an eye on the release schedules for China, could be interesting until the Diaoyu islands are sorted out. dezorz
just curious, which resident evil films have been theatrically released in china? The Toymaker
The sale is happening. I can't see it cooling down at all. The good thing is that China are not a warring nation. The bad news is that Japan are.
