SchumacherFTW
Can't one theoretically opt out of that release date or is it something SARFT lock in?
A Marvel Fanboy
Actually I will be a little surprised if Skyfall and Hobbit not opening on same day.Foreign movies in 2013 is done, the biggest one probably wont come close to 100M while could see a least 4 local movies do $100M-plus. Market share for foreign movies will be less than 40% in 2013, will see a decrease in $ for them.
A Marvel Fanboy
Maybe not 100%-plus increase for Pi but should be close.
POLYLOVE
SARFT is really mentally retarded I think. Chinese B.O. market is growing and they are trying to prevent it. Why not just push Hobbit to March? It won't hurt local blockbusters at all.

A Marvel Fanboy
A few notes: 1. Skyfall and Hobbit will open together on January 10th (the Thursday). Premier schedule will be 1.10~2.09 for both. 2. Hobbit will be 3D release exclusively, no 2D copy. 3. Hobbit and Skyfall will share IMAX screens and shows during their theatrical run. 4. There are will be about 1,000 screens available for 48 FPS 3D Hobbit. 5. RE5, Cloud Atlas, etc could aslo possibly be released in January.
