China Box Office Thread | Deadpool & Wolverine- July 26

Our Kinometro made me laugh today. They wrote that they expect at least $20-25mln more from Stalingrad in China. Also said that Stalingrad grossed more than War Horse and Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor in 2001! And they insist on 7000+ screen count.

LMAO they're epic

aww good for Escape plan.

Pearl Harbor ---- 104m ---- 2001 ---- # 1

War House ---- 118.3m ---- 2012 ---- # 40

Starlingrad ---- 100m ? ---- 2013 ---- # 65 ?

Starlingrad is far from being locked to reach 100m, considering the steep drops it showed and many movies to open this week.

With a 100m finish, it would probably rank around 65 on 2013 yearly chart.

Currently there are 50 movies over 100M in 2013. The Special Identity is the 50th one. Another 12 100m+ almost locks to go: EP, Thor 2, CF, Gravity, Control, The White Storm, No Man Land, The Four 2, Firestorm, Personal Tailor, Police Story, As The Light Goes Out, and there are candidates: HT, Love you for loving me, Up in the Wind.

If it makes only 80m-ish, then it would rank 70+.

The screens it had last week were around 4000~4500 for sure.

I dont think there is anything to be complained about its performace: it is already by far the biggest Russia film in China; it is the first non-Chinese non-English language film that opens on top ever.

Current biggest non-English foreign language film in China should be German animated movie Animal United (released here in 2011) with 61M yuan.

Starlingrad (58.5m by day 6) soon will surpass it.

Followed by Luc Besson's The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec (2010) with 45m. Then Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends (Japanese, 2011) and Fly to the Moon (French, 2013) both with 30m.

Sammy's Adventure (Belgium, 2012) was 5th (now 6th) with 25m.

#7. The Thieves --- 22m ---- 2013 ---- Korea

#8. Sector 7 --- 21m ---- 2011 --------- Korea

#9. Female Agents --- 21m ---- 2009 ---- French

#10. Doraemon the movie 2006 --- 20m ---- 2007 ---- Japanese

#11. Vinci --- 20m ---- 2007 ---- Polish

The rest all are below 20M yuan.

The biggest non-Hollywood [or non-US to be specificly] (not necessarily non-English lanuage) foreign in China though is Bait 3D (Austrilian, 2012) with whopping 160M. Followed by Taken 2 (French, 2012) with 117m then The Great Gatsby (Austrilian, 2013) with 83M.

Tuesday:

1. EP --- 19.5m --- 38.3m
2. Sta --- 3.7m --- 58.3m
3. HT --- 2.3m --- 39.6m
4. Wol --- 1.3m --- 246m

EP Projection:

19 + 19 + 17.5 + 15 + 7.5 + 12 + 10 = 100m --- $16.4m --- 7days. It looks a $25m total for it is possible, which will be very close to its North America gross.

I thought TLS, just released a few days before EP, would hurt it. Both films did/do very well. Stallone and Arnold indeed remain to be respectable draws in China.

This is because the screen numbers for Escape Plan will get reduced significantly soon as Thor 2, Gravity, Catching Fire etc will release this month.

I am so pleased that Escape Plan took $9M just in 3 days during the weekdays.

I feel kinda sad for these 80s icons. H'wood has never been kind to has-beens.

But these guys actually keep getting roles, albeit in B-list productions.

Arnie's best are T1/T2 & PREDATOR. And COMMANDO is a great

B-movie with cheesy credit sequence, silly but fun action and a great sense of humor.

I would watch it anytime it is on cable...
