baumer
Great information! I wonder why they stopped tracking Canadian box office but still have Quebec.Tribute was the only real source for Canadian numbers and they stopped tracking. Quebec has about a quarter of the Canadian population, so if Twilight did 2.2 there, then maybe it did close to 10 mill in Canada this weekend. But I really have no idea. The highest grossing french canadian movie so far this year is "La Petite Reine", released earlier this summer, with a little bit over 800 000$, which is... very bad.To put that in perspective, have a look at Summer 2005 : (2005 was a record year with 18% of the market for the french canadian movies, 2014 will be around 4%)C.R.A.Z.Y. : 5,2 M$Aurore : 4,4 M$Horloge Biologique : 3,6 M$ Le Survenant : 2,6 M$Every year, in July or beginning of August, there is a big movie released (usually a comedy) that is meant to be a big blockbuster. La Grande Séduction (2003 : 7,3 M$), Camping Sauvage (2004 : 3,5 M$), Bon Cop Bad Cop (2006 : 10,4 M$), De Père en Flic (2009 : 10,6 M$), Piché : Entre ciel et terre : (2010 : 4 M$)This year, it was Le Vrai du Faux. Everything was there : big names, good trailer, same director than "De père en flic"... the movie will have difficulties to reach a total of 400 000$... pathetic

sgrave
i don't have data fort Canadian BO alone... I used to have in mind a ratio of 1/40 for the part of Quebec BO in the Domestic numbers. But it's an average!22 Jump Street is doing bigger numbers than Transformers 4! Dragons 2 cume is almost the same than T4...
baumer
Quebec is the second biggest province box office wise and they have seemingly different taste in box office than the rest of Canada, so this is an interesting thread.

Rtheimer
How much % is Canadian box office in USA box office? I used to have in mind a ratio of 1/40 for the part of Quebec BO in the Domestic numbers. But it's an average! 22 Jump Street is doing bigger numbers than Transformers 4! Dragons 2 cume is almost the same than T4... Quebec is the second biggest province box office wise and they have seemingly different taste in box office than the rest of Canada, so this is an interesting thread. -Canada of Domestic is currently 9% -In Canada , ON has 42% mkt share(4% of dom, 5th biggest state market behind CA TX FL NY ), QC #2 with 17%(2% of Dom), #3 AB 15% -Canada Share 22J /HTTYD2 11%, DOTPOTA/AOE 9% also this ECSTASY, on 04 Dec 2013 - 2:11 PM, said: Is there any particular reason why Canada does not report their Box Office separate from the U.S.? Always been that way Canada is just seen as a "branch" of USA so office in Toronto is just seen as branch of US same as an office in NYC, there are various reports available with just Canada BO (Canadian film mag Tribute use to publish just Canada gross but not anymore) QC has its on BO report. When I use to do the BO report, I was frustrated when Canada (or just QC) was left off.. its like you include it all or not at all. I use to give Brandon corrections to BO which was excluding all of Canada or just QC, but I don't think he ever corrected or investigated any of them (remembering though that other sites may/may not have included the missing figures, for example Rentrak Studio reported for original GWTDT does include Canada, the inclusion of itt of cause changed the week to week totals and where it ranks each week, BOM is missing over 2m from film's total one example of many) The reason for some reports excluding Canada or just QC BO is because there can be different distibutors and if you don't get the totals from all of them , so you could have one distributor in USA and another for Canada (exclu QC) and another for QC and each one only cares about their section. A lot of films released in QC only or QC first that BO may ot be included in "domestic" total when you see it. So a film could start in QC then release later rest Canada & USA and you may only see the total without QC Edited July 24, 2014 by Rth
Lordmandeep
It was fun to track Canadian box office because certain films especially the LOTR were far more popular here.
