85th Academy Awards (24/2/13) Official Thread- TONIGHT!! NOMINEES IN THE FIRST POST

I actually think the movie does a good job of not trivialising it or making the holocaust seem light or whatever. I used to have the same feelings as you but I grew a higher appreciation of it when I was studying it for my film studies class a while back.

Haha Tommy in your Avatar.

Yes because he`s a category fraud like Waltz. More screen time, more to do with the character.

He's definitely not category fraud. It's a big supporting role but it's still a supporting role. I just realized that 8 out of the 16 acting nominations are from Weinstein! LOL.

Bardem is probably the most category fraud winner ever. They knew he had no chance against DDL, just like everyone this year. I would LOVE a PSH and Amy Adams sweep. Adams' performance is really underrated (mostly here). She was basically running the show and had some badass scenes (THANKS TO A INCREDIBLE SCRIPT AND DIRECTOR, ACADEMY!!). It would be hilarious if it won all the acting noms.

Next year will probably be even more unpredictable. The talk in the Academy is to move nominations up one more week, and move the oscar ceremony to the beginning of February (Around the current BAFTA timeslot). That's just going to be hectic, because at that point we'll probably see acting categories being as unpredictable as this year's directors. Looking at the schedule for next year if they're going to be moving it up again, we could see maybe only 1 or 2 sure things in each category.
