Jack Nevada
Discussion about the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, which starts 17th of january Some of the most anticipated films of the fest include Before Midnight by Richard Linklater, and the biopic of the visionary behind Apple, jOBS. Just like every year, we can expect at least a good handful of breakouts (2012 gave us The House I Live in, Safety Not Guaranteed, The Sessions, Searching for Sugar Man and best picture nominee Beasts of the Southern Wild) http://www.sundance.org/festival/ Aston Kutcher as Steve Jobs in jOBS
CoolioD1
That Jobs thing is gonna be so bad.Idk, I'm only really interested in Before Midnight but there's always something that jumps out and surprises people here.
Sims
Isn't Jobs a TV movie anyways? I found next year's Best Documentary winner: http://filmguide.sundance.org/film/13159/catnip_egress_to_oblivion Catnip: Egress to Oblivion? Catnip is all the rage with today's modern feline, but do we really understand it? This film frankly discusses the facts about this controversial substance. Jack Nevada
I would give my left nut for an all-access ticket to Sundance Film Festival. I'm not even joking
riczhang
I can't wait for the Cannes line-up; they usually have the coolest films of the year by far. Last year was brilliant, Audiard, Haneke, Hillcoat, Carax, Anderson, Reygadas, Croenberg, Dolan, and etc.

CoolioD1
Fruitvale is the one that's not Before Midnight that I'm most interested in. Got a lot of strong praise and was picked up by the weinsteins. (tbh I would've liked to have seen it picked up by someone like Fox Searchlight instead, but whatever.) CoolioD1
Jim Rash and Nat Faxon (writers of The Descendants) directed a movie called The Way Way Back and Fox Searchlight bought it for $10 million. One of the biggest sales ever at the festival apparently.

It does have a good cast, and a concept that could be very likable ala Little Miss Sunshine (fuck ya'll I like that movie)

riczhang
Really looking forward to The Way, Way Back. Fox bought it for $10 million, which is the biggest festival purchase their ever tied with Little Miss Sunshine. Definitely a good sign, indicates that Fox thinks they have something really strong.
TLK
Yep, $10 million + at least $15 million in promotion means that they think that movie can make $50 million+ domestically. Usually Sundance sales are in the six figures to $2 million range and the movies end up on VOD in their opening weekend.
riczhang
I had a festival purchase excel chart but that got lost along with some other files when my other computer died last year. Does anyone recall how much Fox paid for Beasts, and Vantage paid for Like Crazy?
