Discussion about the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, which starts 17th of january

Some of the most anticipated films of the fest include Before Midnight by Richard Linklater, and the biopic of the visionary behind Apple, jOBS. Just like every year, we can expect at least a good handful of breakouts (2012 gave us The House I Live in, Safety Not Guaranteed, The Sessions, Searching for Sugar Man and best picture nominee Beasts of the Southern Wild)

I can't wait for the Cannes line-up; they usually have the coolest films of the year by far. Last year was brilliant, Audiard, Haneke, Hillcoat, Carax, Anderson, Reygadas, Croenberg, Dolan, and etc.

I dont think they'll be able to top that in a while

Jim Rash and Nat Faxon (writers of The Descendants) directed a movie called The Way Way Back and Fox Searchlight bought it for $10 million. One of the biggest sales ever at the festival apparently.

It does have a good cast, and a concept that could be very likable ala Little Miss Sunshine (fuck ya'll I like that movie)

Really looking forward to The Way, Way Back. Fox bought it for $10 million, which is the biggest festival purchase their ever tied with Little Miss Sunshine. Definitely a good sign, indicates that Fox thinks they have something really strong.

Yep, $10 million + at least $15 million in promotion means that they think that movie can make $50 million+ domestically. Usually Sundance sales are in the six figures to $2 million range and the movies end up on VOD in their opening weekend.
