peludo
BREAKING DAWN Part-2 have been waited from everyone egerly!!!Twilight has grossed here 16 (First part), 28, 25 and 26 million. I think we will see 25-30 million for the last part too.So there will be a huge OW for The Hobbit too even though the market is bad for most of the year. The crisis is horrible and people leave cinemas and they only go to very big movies. And The Hobbit is the most expected movie of the year by far. Many people are already talking about The Hobbit here. I do not know if it will break the OW record. The Impossible has had some advantages: it has been released on a Holiday weekend with some bad weather and without football league, and it has been advertised a lot in one of the main TV channels (Telecinco), which is the main producer of the movie. Telecinco is producer of Tadeo Jones too and you can check its results.LOTR is the most attended franchise here. Only Avatar and Titanic have grossed more money than each LOTR movie. All of them opened very big 10 years ago and ROTK set the record in 2003 (TTT opened with 1.5 million admissions and 7.2 million €, and ROTK opened with 1.7 million admissions and 8.4 million €. I do not have any data for FOTR but if I'm not wrong it opened lower than TTT). It has chances of beating the record of The Impossible, but it will be tough. Many people will wait to watch the movie at Christmas. Edited October 15, 2012 by peludo

The Toymaker
Really? Spain go ga-ga over a director? It's stars and setting are not Spanish, so to go mental over just the director is really impressive. $13m in opening weekend.
peludo
Really? Spain go ga-ga over a director? It's stars and setting are not Spanish, so to go mental over just the director is really impressive. $13m in opening weekend.Well, it has not only been because of the director. The promotion has been enormous in a big national TV channel (Telecinco) which is the main producer of the film. The film had good critics in San Sebastián Film Festival, both Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts are considered good actors. The director factor can affect too. He had only directed another movie, The Orphanage, which grossed 37 million $ in 2007 (about 24 million €).The same happened with, for instance, The Others in 2001. It was the third movie of Alejandro Amenábar, after Tesis and Open your eyes (Hollywood made a remake called Vanilla Sky). It opened quite well too (although not as big as The Impossible, of course). Production was entirely Spanish, but it was stared by Nicole Kidman and other American and British actors. It is still the all-time highest Spanish grosser with 27 million €. peludo
Wow. Nice to see the Spanish getting behind their own industry.I wish it were in this way, but there are many Spanish people who not only do not like Spanish movies, actors or directors, but they detest them. Some people do not like the movies made here because they think movies have always similar themes: drama with social message or Spanish Civil War. That is not true, but that has become the general vision about Spanish cinema.Another problem is that people do not approve that Goverment give subventions to cinema in order to make films when that money could be invested in other things. And another problem is people think that Spanish people who works making films are too politized (they mainly have left-wing views) and they do not bear that. Stars like Javier Bardem, Pedro Almodóvar or Penélope Cruz have shown that ideology it has not been well-received. You could think it should not have any influence, but this factor affcets. Almodóvar films, for instance, grosses less here than in France or Italy. There are very few directors or genres that can take lots of people to cinemas: Amenábar, Bayona or Santiago Segura (Spanish director, actor and showman), but in general, the box office of Spanish films is horrible.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but October 12th The Impossible did about 3 million, so we would be talking about 2.1 million € yesterday. So, if on Thursday it had 13 million as you said in your previous post, it could be at 19-19.5 million € on Sunday. Just wow . It can outgross LOTR movies. lab276
Assuming 400k tickets last Friday, it sold 280k this Friday. With the same IM as last weekend, it would sell 850k tickets this weekend. It should be better than that given last Friday was a holiday, so the drops on Saturday and Sunday will be better.
