Sweet 20 and Jailangkung (at 2,303,702 adm) are the only two movies busy bragging their numbers now.

MD Pictures (Insya Allah Sah) has switched their focus to building hype for Ayat-ayat Cinta 2, coming in December.

Falcon Pictures (Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan) has been quiet from the very beginning, perhaps acknowledging defeat.

They actually updated the new number today. Hahaha. Probably their last update.

Ok, so TF5 won't pass The Avengers. Which one do you think going to win between TF5 and Spidey ? Spidey has lower OW and no holiday boost, but better WOM and retains more screens. It's probably going to be close.

Hmmm, tough one.

I'm going to go for TF5. Kids are back in school and there's DM3 as an option, so Spidey will be bitten just a tad.

Congratulations, @catlover !

Yeah finally! The movie deserves it. I'm so happy now haha. Make a good movie, and people will show up. Also apparently, make a horror movie and push the marketing, regardless of the quality, people will show up too lol.

I'm rooting for Spidey. I think it can reach $13m. Yes DM3 is taking a lot of screens and viewers from SMH especially the kids. But I feel that the WOM is really good, and people who didn't get the tickets for DM3 will definitely choose to see Spidey instead.

OK, these I guess would be reasonably close to the final admission numbers the 2017's crop of Eid movies.

Altogether, the quartet gathered 5,049,622 admissions - a significant uptick of 117% from 2016's Eid movies.

Very very impressive, considering that they got sandwiched by Transformers and Spider-Man, while the 2016 movies had only Tarzan to contend with.

2017 Indonesian movies is now at 17,153,372 admissions, pacing ahead 116% of 2016 in the same calendar frame.

However, in 2016 Eid fell in July, so July 2017 movies had to perform bravely against 2016 Eid movies.

In July 2016, the Eid movies carried most of the weight, bringing the monthly total to 4.5m admissions (accompanied by, among others, box office oddity Chikung which grabbed only 501 attendance).

July 2017's lineup doesn't look very promising, we'll see how much they can do. Although to be honest, for a month to crack 4m admissions you would need at least a 1m performer, which I don't see July 2017 has.

I said it earlier, the only 1 million contender in July is The Doll 2. But I'm not feeling the hype right now. I'm very active on social media and there was hype for Danur & Jailangkung. We'll see this weekend.

Oh, I just can't wait to see how big this will explode in Indonesia.

An OW bigger than Spider-Man would be crazy!

Annabelle: Creation opens 9 August in Indonesia.

I've already got my calendar marked for SEVERAL (yes, not one) "nobar"s with friends.

..... I don't have the numbers for the original Conjuring (2013), but:

Annabelle (2014) was the 3rd highest grosser in Indonesia at $7.9m, behind Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The Conjuring 2 (2016) again stood on the 3rd podium, behind Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

A very impressive track record, we'll see how the goodwill carries over to Annabelle 2.

The me-too product (The Doll 2) is released today.

Well, well.

The Doll 2's first day admission was 69k.

That is not far off from Jailangkung (77k) and Danur (83k).

Now considering that eventually Jailangkung got 2.5m and Danur 2.7m .........

Made a mistake, OD was 61k not 69k.

Still, that's 79% of Jailangkung and 73% of Danur, nothing to scoff at given what those two eventually end up with.

Yan Wijaya stated confidently in his tweet that The Doll 2 will surpass its predecessor (which got 550k adm) by 7 days of release.

Danur's 7-day take was close to 1.2m so that's a pretty reasonable expectation.

So yeah, given the crappy local competition, looks like there's enough time for The Doll 2 to grab 1m before the real scary doll arrives, 9 August.

If it does hit 1m, then 2017 will have five one-millioners before the arrival of Jangkrik Boss 2, Pengabdi Setan, and Ayat-ayat Cinta 2. Eight one-millioners seems to be in the bag for 2017.

As for total number of admissions, it is now at 17.55m, that's still some ways off 2016's mega 37m achievement (revised from 36.5m after I looked again at the numbers).

My back-of-envelope calculation says 30m is basically a lock, so 2017 won't be trailing much from from 2016. And it may surprise us yet again.

Import movies are looking damn good as well. In 2016, Hollywood wide releases reaped around $165m (by my humble estimates).

Currently 2017 is already around $138m. Justice League, Thor 3 and Star Wars 8 can bring 2017 level with 2016, so with the rest of the movies I'd say 2016's earnings will be easily surpassed.

Well, well. WB decided not to publish the OW number for Dunkirk in Indonesia. Perhaps the truncated OW (it opened on Friday instead of the usual Wednesday) made it small(ish). Surely WB wants Dunkirk to look mighty against Baywatch!

The quoted champion was Despicable Me 3, nabbing another $1.17m bringing the cume to $5.37m. A rather underwhelming figure, considering Minions did $8.69m back in 2015.

Baywatch opened to a larger-than-estimated $724k, while earning close to $662k was the 3rd weekend of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spidey was given quite a lot of screens which helped him achieve this number, bringing the cume to $11.999m, passing Transformers: The Last Knight in the process and a no.9 spot on the all-time list. TF5 itself got a measly $19k in its 5th weekend, to a cume of $11.712m. Vitriolic WOM prevented this one from surpassing its predecessor.

Complete chart a bit below.

Don't know yet what movie will open next week .... Valerian? Emoji? Atomic Blonde? Dark Tower?

WB is promoting the hell out of Annabelle: Creation, organizing "meet and greet" with the scary doll at shopping malls. Annabelle is set to haunt Indonesian theaters on 9 August.

As for Indonesian movies, we clearly have The Doll 2 racing towards 1m, as it has grabbed 561k admissions during its first 6 days of release, easily surpassing the first installment from last year (550k admissions). So I believe eight 1-millioners basically locked for 2017. Raditya and Ernest, over to you now!

So here are the charts. Again, NO DUNKIRK NUMBERS yet.

  1. The Fate of the Furious (aka The Fast and Furious 8 in Indonesia) - $19,329,335 - roughly 7,372,761 admissions, an Indonesian all-time record
  2. Spider-Man: Homecoming - $11,999.000 - roughly 4,576,761 admissions
  3. Transformers: The Last Knight - $11,712,725 - roughly 4,467,568 admissions
  4. Beauty and the Beast - $9,122,353 - roughly 3,479,526 admissions
  5. Wonder Woman - $8,600,000 - roughly 3,280,286 admissions
  6. The Mummy - $7,950,767 - roughly 3,032,650 admissions

In 10 days, DM3 scored 5.4m while Minions scored 6.3m in 10 days in Indonesia so the difference isn't big.

Minions ended its run with 8.6m after a month or so in Indonesia.

For a main series sequel to fall 14% off the pace of the spinoff, I'd still say that's underwhelming.

Consider also that DM3 opened at $3.6m, higher than Minions which did $3.494m. Which means that DM3 have weaker legs.

But yeah, we'll see. In Indonesia's limited screen space, the number of allocated screens is always the name of the game. If Sony opens Emoji next week (maybe they wouldn't), DM3 would sink even deeper. For sure, Cars 3 will open on 16 August so that's the absolute finish line for DM3 there.
