Great work by Mirren and Sheen. The deer scene really is very powerfully done.

Love this movie... great acting. Very sensible handling of the topic without ever slipping into voyeurism.

 

Mirren is one of the greatest actresses around imho... I even dare to say that I find her to be superior to Merryl Streep... but I guess that is unpopular opinion.

 

A shame I missed "The Audience" - a play in which Mirren did Elizabeth II again.

I wouldn't say she's superior to Goddess Meryl, but she's up there and honestly her performance here is better than Meryl that year and a good portion of Meryl's. Obviously Meryl's greats are greater, but this blows something like Devil Wears Prada or ITW or Bridges and etc. out of the water. 

 

Probably top 5 best post-2000 lead actress performance. Only Huppert, Riva defs in front and possibly a Meryl and Cotillard.
