  1. 2 (or, well, it's a tie with Zodiac). There Will Be Blood (117 points, 10 lists) It's a damn masterpiece. PTA is a genius.
  2. 3. Zodiac (117 points, 11 lists) This movie made me obsessed. Literally.
  3. 4. No Country for Old Men (114 points, 12 lists) Not since Fargo have the Coens crafted a film with such flawlessly constructed scenes that are impossible not to be drawn into, even if you don't want to be.
  4. 5. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (101 points, 9 lists) Sondheim, Burton, Depp, Botham Carter? Well, it's hard to go wrong here.
  5. 6. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (100 points, 9 lists) Westerns had a good revival year in 2007, but this beautifully contemplative film with killer performances from Pitt and Casey Affleck took the throwback cake.
  6. 7. Hot Fuzz (74 points, 9 lists) Hot Fuzz isn't a perfect movie, but I'll take it over Shaun of the Dead any day of the week. The action is so over-the-top and the fish out of water story is so entertaining that it's hard not to have fun.
  7. 8. Into the Wild (71 points, 7 lists) I've lost track of how many times I've seen Into the Wild, but I appreciate it more each time. I love Emile Hirsh's performance, the score, the visuals, and the story.
  8. Three-way tie! 11. The Bourne Ultimatum (65 points, 9 lists) 10. Gone Baby Gone (65 points, 7 lists) 9. Michael Clayton (65 points, 9 lists) I don't have a whole lot to say about these three, but I really enjoyed all of them. Bourne is a helluva thriller, Gone Baby Gone is a startling directing debut from Ben Affleck and Michael Clayton is one of the ultimate lawyer movies.
  9. Even 2012's relatively lousy weekends aren't that bad. Wanderlust and Gone outright bombed, but Valor did really well for a two hour recruitment ad, and Deeds did really well for a Tyler Perry film where he doesn't cross-dress.
  10. 12. 3:10 to Yuma (50 points, 8 lists) It's hard to craft a remake of a western that stays true to the original's spirit and offers a new, exciting modern take. 3:10 to Yuma more than did the trick.
  11. 13. Transformers (40 points, 4 lists) Of Bay's bombastic, stupid trilogy, this actually had some classic Bay moments of awe and fun. Otherwise, it's a shame to see a director so embraced for all of his worst qualities.
  12. Sorry this is starting so late. Also, though these movies do deserve them, I don't have time for huge descriptions. People can chime in as they wish. Also, I believe I've goofed up and Order of the Phoenix was actually #15 with 31 points, as listed above. Whatever, Noctis won't care. 14. Knocked Up (38 points, 5 lists) Apatow has directed and produced many funny films, but Knocked Up is one of his funniest and most mature works to date. I'm really hoping This is Forty lives up to it.
  13. I get the sense that they're not showing the bulk of the plot yet. Which is good, that's the same strategy they used with TS3 and Cars 2- every trailer went a little further into the movie without outright spoiling it. That said, I liked this clip, but I don't know, this just feels like a good Dreamworks movie so far.

  15. Better news: Parks and Rec is only leaving for a month- it'll replace Up All Night (which will finish its season) in mid April- and then it'll finish out the rest of its season in May, as usual. Best news: Whitney and Chelsea are getting the boot, at least temporarily. YAY.
  16. I watched it for the first time since around the movie came out to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I wasn't.
  17. The ensemble is incredible, the production design is unlike anything else on TV, the direction, writing and editing are all terrific... I can go on...
  18. I quote it without even realizing it. It's just ingrained into my manner of speech.
  19. It's a shame that people just sort of write off The Simpsons because of its current quality. For literally seven years it was one of television's best written comedies.
  20. I would venture further and say there was no excuse for making a Ghost Rider 2, let alone making a Ghost Rider 2 five years after the first one.
  21. It's a silent movie. It seems like most of the people who are watching it are liking it, but it's hard to listen to your friends if they tell you a silent, black and white movie is actually worth their time. They might as well wait until the weekend after the Oscars.
  22. As long as it opened theatrically in 2007, it's a 2007 movie. That's we've been going off of for the last few lists.
  23. That year I was more surprised by Up in the Air losing Best Adapted Screenplay to... Precious. PRECIOUS.Ugh.
